Wine

I am looking for suggestions for a good red and white wine that won't break the bank. Any suggestions of commonly available brands that are fairly inexpensive but don't taste cheap? We will probably be putting a bottle of red and white wine on each table for self-service.

Well....first, do you prefer sweet or dry wines?

Sweet white wines reasonably priced are Moscato and Reisling.  I like SutterHome Moscato and Relax Reisling.  My FI also like both.  He's a sweet wine kind of guy.  I like both sweet and dry wines.

Sweet red wines: SutterHome Sweet Red is sweet but not too sweet.  Rosato is more of a blush but sweeter and kind of bubbly.  My FI usually doesn't drink reds, but he likes the Rosato.

Dry wines I'm not as familiar with.  I like Snap Dragon California Red.  I usually buy this when making my spaghetti.  The best part is the recipe only needs 1/4 cup so I get to drink the rest.  :)

And I've got nothing for a dry white.  But I can't wait to see other suggestions.

Rex Goliath Cabernet is about 6 dollars a bottle and is very delicious.  Nice and balanced; not too dry, but not sweet, nice fruitiness.  Most grocery stores will carry it.

My favorite inexpensive white wines are a little less likely to be found at a grocery store, but I suggest Dry Creek Fume Blanc (it's a lot like a Sauvignon Blanc) and it runs about 9 a bottle.  It's citrusy and crisp--fruity, but not sweet. Also, I've had good experiences with Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc.  It's probably more common and a little cheaper than the Dry Creek.

Chilean reds are fantastic.  Even my Napa area born husband admits it.  My favorite red is LaPostalle's Cabernet Sauvignon.  Reasonably priced and delicious.  I'm not so much a fan of whites any more, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

If you have a Trader Joes in your area try thier wines. They are cheap and most of them are good.
