That sounds like a great plan!!! Congrats! Look for caterers, and decide how formal you want it. my mom did her 2nd marriage (about 5 years ago) in her backyard, yet did a caterer with a carving station, and really nice foods. or you could do pasta salads, leafy salads, Kabobs, beer/wine, etc... That will defiantely change your planning depending on which way you go.

We're also getting married in my future in laws backyard, it'll be a great way to save money on site fees!

My friend/coordinator my first priority is to pick a date then pick a caterer, so start there!

Where are you located? My in laws live in the mountians of Topanga canyon so we will be using vendors from the valley, as I go along I share with you =)

If you want to get married in your church you may want to find out if the day you want is available and if you need to plan for any pre-wedding counseling. Some men/women of the cloth won't perform wedding ceremonies without this and it may need to be planned many months in advance. Don't forget to give your dress at least 6 months so you have time for alterations, etc. Catering can be done 7-9 months in advance unless it is someone that gets booked early because they are super busy or well known. If you need flowers or a day of planner contact downtoearthcelebrationsatgmail.com. They are a small business just starting out and super eager to give great prices and packages depending on your needs.

Congratulations and good luck with the planning!

my sister got married at home and here are some of the things she did that I thing could be helpful:

Alert the neighbors well in advance. If you're close to them, invite them to the reception!

Depending on how many guests you have, consider hiring valet parking. You may think there's plenty of parking, but if you have 100 people, that's approx 50 cars that have to park and you may not want to have people have to hoof it many blocks just to to get there. This is also a courtesy to your neighbors.

Have them double check their home owners insurance to make sure they are fully insured. Many places can even insure just for a day and it doesn't cost much, if at all.

Keep in mind that any savings you have by having it at a home may be off-set by bringing in stuff.

The great thing is that you'll have way more time to set up, and you may save money by doing some of the set-up or arranging yourself.

    Have a fantastic wedding!

    A
