Unity sand/candle, wedding only?

My fiance and I were engaged and then found out we are having a baby (yay!) so we decided to continue on and get married before the baby comes. To save money we are going to do a court house wedding with just our parents. We do want to have a big BBQ/cookout style reception to celebrate with our families after and I was wondering is it ok to do a unity candle or unity sand at the reception with all our family or can that only be done during the actual wedding ceremony?

Re: Unity sand/candle, wedding only?

  • I agree with Stage. You can certainly do it either way. I think I would lean towards doing it at the ceremony since it's the actual wedding, but it wouldn't bother me if it was done at the reception at all. I've been to several courthouse weddings as well, and they can be just as lovely as a large wedding. Check into all of your options for sure!

  • Originally my SIL and her H were going to have a courthouse wedding, no reception.  Then my MIL offered to host a reception for them.  We realized that, for the same price as the courthouse, we could throw a nice wedding at my ILs home.  We planned their wedding (yes, it was a group effort) in 3 weeks,

I guess my point is, don't feel like you can only do a courthouse ceremony.  You can have ceremony and BBQ/cookout just as easily as only having the bbq.
  • Of course you can do it at the reception! Why not? Sounds very nice to me. Do what you want.
