New Jersey - South

South Jersey wedding - August 2011

Hi All,
We are planning a South Jersey wedding from Florida.  We have appts to tour 4 venues next week, but I was hoping to get some feedback from some locals.  We are going to tour the following locations:
Flanders, Greate Bay Club, Hidden Creek Golf Club & Atlantic City Country Club.  We really liked Avalon Yacht Club, but they don't host summer weddings.  :(
Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Amy

What are you looking for? How many people? Do you have an estimated price per head that you are looking for?

I live in Ocean City and know lots of people who have happily gotten married at the Flanders. Another OC option is the yacht club, I think people have also been quite happy there.

I went to see Greate Bay on my tour of venues (ultimately went with Smithville Inn).  While the photos online looked great, the venue did not live up to the photos.  The place, particularly the room, looked extremely tired.  A noticeable number of the dinner chairs were stained, making seat cover rentals a necessity.  The girl who showed me around did not seem either interested in me or in my business.  I have to say, we visited (at least) 7 venues, and that one was the most disappointing.

have you checked out Seaview in Galloway NJ. I am getting married there. They are a historic hotel with so much character. They are also putting 7.5 million dollars of renovations into the hotel this month. The girls that work there are great too :)

Flanders is old-fashioned, classy style -- but when my FI and I checked it out, I think they painted over the beautiful murals I remember from my high school years.  There are paintings up, but I think they are re-done.  Flanders has a grand feel and its nice to have the boardwalk for photos, but it is very specific in style (we wanted a cleaner lines kind of retro feel, not antique-y).

I second OC Yacht Club!  Great bay views, nice staircase great for photo ops, and good neutral pallette to work with.  I was between Smithville, OC Yacht Club, and Tomasello Winery (where we booked!).  I went for price and the look of the room inside!

Thanks so much for the info!  We are not set on a budget yet.  We want to take a look at the venues first.  I called Avalon yacht club & they confirmed that they are closed in the summer.  We may look into OC yacht club.  Planning a wedding in another state is very overwhelming!

The FI and I are planning our wedding at the Flanders. We love everything about the place! We checked out the OC Yacht Club and found them to be very stuffy and not willing to work with us on anything.

Karen is the wedding planner at the Flanders and is super accomodating! She has been such a help with everything for us. The Flanders does cost a little more than the Yacht Club but it's so worth it! You get what you pay for :)

Good luck on all your appointments. I'm sure you will find the perfect venue!

Ocean City Yacht Club would have been our second choice, we decided to stay in Cape May and went with The Southern Mansion...if you're interested in venues further south in NJ, let me know I live in Cape May, and we checked out places there and in OC/Somers Point area.

We are looking forward to touring the venues this weekend & finally booking something.  We are leaning towards Flanders & Greate Bay.  Does Flanders give you a list of vendors they recommend?  If it's a dry town, does the Flanders or cater take care of the alcohol?  Thanks!
