Intro...finally

Hello all,
As I stated in another post (those people), I usually lurk. About a few weeks ago I started posting more (yay, new offbeat board), so that has become my "home" board. But, since I live, and am going to get married in, the Rochester area, I usually look at the central/upstate/western new york boards.

About me:
- (Tentative) wedding date: June 2, 2012
- Me and my FI have been together 3 years
- I hate the word tacky.
- DIY, budget, offbeat bride
- Graduated as a photo kid, hoping to find a job in photo/design/ect
- My plan for Valentines Day is to drink wine :)

Feel free to ask me anything. Though, I might not get back to this until tomorrowish.

Welcome! I am somewhat new to TK too. A photog! Graduated from RIT? My FI is a photog too. He is a chief photographer at WROC-TV and runs his own business too. So here is a good question: how are you going to pick photographer for the wedding? ;)

    Yep, from RIT.
That is awesome about your FI.

Oh, man, I can not figure out what I want to do about a photography. Either I can save a lot of money and ask someone I went to school with (even if they don't have wedding experience), or spend a lot of money and hire a wedding photographer so I know roughly how the photos will come out. Though, if I hire a professional, I am going for the more photo-journlistic feel.
It is going to be a casual wedding, so a photographer with little or no wedding experience wouldn't be too bad. I even did video and photo stuff for some friends wedding, and that came out fine.
I'm just horribly picky about photos I like. Its a tough debate in my head: cheap and decent photos (which I'm sure would come out great, no matter what) vs. money and amazing photos.

    Wow!!!  2 photographers now??
    We are a lucky board!!

Welcome, congrats on the engagement and thanks for unlurking!!!
I am not a photog pro, but choosing my photographer was one of the toughest decisions (second only ot my dress... freaking nightmare) we made.
We went with Tess Moran out of Buffalo and are so happy!!!  I knew pics would be our biggest splurge... a coworker gave me some words of wisdom that kind of helped with our decision....
After the wedding is over, everything gets thrown away or put in storage... no one will really remember the food, the cake, your dress, the flowers....
You will have 3 things left when all is said and done:
    1.  Your husband
    2.  Your ring
    3.  Your pictures

I thought more about it and we decided to go with Tess who, thank God, was pretty reasonably priced, but her pictures were alos amazing!!!  (The alternative was someone local from Syracuse who was only going to charge like $600... but the pics weren't anywhere near as beautiful)

    HTH

And WELCOME!!!!!  Look forward to hearing more from ya!

Go Tigers! I graduated from RIT too! Accounting major! If you going to hire a professional wedding photographer, look at my FI's work www.gardnerphotography.net :) He is Owesom, but he limits amount of work he accepts. I want to have a life LOL! Monica, you absolutely right about 3 things you have left after the wedding! Dating a photog gave me very different perspective. I realized how horrible my photos were before I learned what makes a good one.

Welcome to the board! My photographer was the one thing I allowed myself to totally splurge on, so that'd be my answer. Im all about pictures and have them all over my house, so there wasnt too much of an option for me

Welcome!  I've only been on here for a few months, but it's a great board and everyone is really nice!  I'll have to check out that Offbeat board too.  (Not that I'm really Offbeat, but I like cruising through different boards to see what the people are like on each one; that one sounds interesting and not judgey.)

Thanks for the welcome everyone. ^_^

I most likely will completely splurge with a photographer, but, honestly, it depends on budget. And, even though they don't have wedding experience per say, I know a lot of people who are great photographers who would do an amazing job. Guess we will see once it gets closer.

sbolger - the offbeat board is just that, interesting and non judgey, though it is just starting out. We are hoping that it will stay this way :)
