Catholic Church Recommendations

Hello all

I am currently looking for a Catholic church for our ceremony.  I originally was planning on St John the Evangelist, but after I spoke with the rectory and read their "requirements", I cancelled.

I am looking for a church that has a little drama to it.  Our current parish is very modern and doesn't really make for great photos. Our reception is at Windows on the River.  Any ideas? Thanks to all:)

How about St. Malachy's in Ohio City (I think I'm remembering this right - It's on the west side of the river near the Detroit Superior bridge. Cattycorner from Massimo's restaurant)?

What about St. Anns in the coventry area?  Have you asked about "renting' St John the Evangelist and just using your preferred priest?  My FSIL used her priest but they got married at St Columba. So they went through their parishs program for precana instead of St Columba's.  I know they are different diocese but it is an idea to explore.

What are their requirements you don't like?

I thought about St Malachi--however, my fiance used to live in StoneBridge VERY close to there, and most days of the week there is a sketchy crew hanging around outside.  I wanted to avoid that on my big day.

St John the Evangelist has a lot of rules for a wedding there.  The deal breaker for me is the photographer rule -- no photos before or after the ceremony, no photos on the altar, and the photographer must use only a stationary camera and has to stay in a certain area of the church.  Well, that area is behind the last pew.  My biggest reason for wanting the wedding there is the atmosphere: romantic and classic.  If I don't have the pictures, why use that church?  I was also turned off by the deacon, unfortunately.  Thanks for the valuable thoughts:)

That is actually an outdated rule!  I just got married there on Saturday (also had my wedding at WOTR) and you can take pictures after the ceremony!  Their website is not the most up to date.

If that doesn't work for you, Holy Rosary in Little Italy is a gorgeous church!

St. Colman's (W 65th St) is absolutely gorgeous!  Marble altar, its so perfect for weddings.  My cousin just got married there a few weeks ago, and was able to do all those photo ops you were looking for.  Her reception was also at Windows, and it was only like a 5-7 minute drive from the church to the reception!
