I am in the process of writing up our program books. Because many of our guests are unfamiliar with jewish wedding traditions, we are offering brief explanations on all the parts of the ceremony (chuppah, wine, rings, seven blessings, yichud, etc.). I have a listing for the invocation and the priestly benediction. Do you think its necessary to offer explanations for these? Or do you think they are common enough in other religions that people will know what they are?

No, you don't - most everyone are familiar with these. What you plan to explain sounds fine. Just having had my wedding, trust me most folks won't even glance through the program much once the wedding gets started, keeping their focus on what's going on. They'll glance through if they have time after they are seated (when they aren't chatting with other friends), but it won't be until much later when they sit down to take a glance at it before putting it away as part of their keepsake.

We included the entire text of our ceremony in ours. However, our explanations did not cover the invocation and the priestly blessing, as we didn't think they really required explanation.
