  You can start now if you want.  I waited until 9 months out, but I bought a sample dress, so it didn't matter in the end.  But it will also depend on where you go and what dress you buy.  You can at least start looking.  And I'm getting married on 10/15 this year!

  I got my dress over a year out.  Some designers take 8 or 9 months to get in after it's ordered.  Depending on what you want, or which designer, I'm sure you could start looking.  It's never too early to see what exactly you like, but you certainly don't NEED to start right now.

  I started 11 months before, totally not expecting to buy a dress until at least 8-9 months out. I wanted all of that time in case I didn't find a dress I liked right away and would have to visit lots of shops to find something I liked. It is definitely never too early to start, because there's no way to know how long it will take you to find the right one.
