Mandarin Oriental Boston?

My FI and I just viewed our last venue today and we are stuck between the Mandarin (they have an outside space for the ceremony) and the State Room (obviously the view is the seller, but from my last post we have our concerns).  Any ideas about the Mandarin?  I know it is very new, only two years old, but what experiences have people had?  When we went to view the place they had great customer service- even let us stay and dicuss everything in their resturant and order food on the house. My parents are really pushing for it since they are extremely nervous about the State Room but my FI and I are not completely sold yet...we just can't get the State Room out of our heads....HELP!!!

I got married at the Mandarin in June. We couldn't use the outdoor space since it was rainy on our wedding day, but having the ceremony in the ballroom facing the windows was still amazing. The food was beyond delicious and the quantity was insane. Everyone is still raving months later about how phenomenal our event was.

I worked with a planner and she dealt with the Mandarin, so I don't have a lot of experience with working with the staff directly, since all of the communication was between my planner and the Mandarin's planner. They worked very well together.

I have been to both locations for a wedding and a corporate event. The Mandarin is nice and the outdoor space is great for cocktails. I haven't seen a ceremony there. When I went to the State Room, it was rainy and foggy, so while we got great views, the windows had raindrops on them so it was far from a postcard perfect view. Both places had great food. The service at the State Room was a bit stand off ish. I didn't look into them but it might be worth checking reviews for them. A co-worker of mine got married at the Longwood Room in Brookline and complained that they treated her poorly because she had a smaller wedding than their normal guest-list size. The Longwood Room and the State Room are run by the same people. I was not at the Longwood wedding so it is just information from someone I work with. Keep asking around. Good luck!

Did you see the view at the Mandarin? It's non-existent- why would they build a ballroom on the third floor? The outdoor space is public as well.

We nixed the state room because they were being shady with the pricing- and you have to share the level with another wedding - they're literally right next door to each other- this isn't a dealbreaker, but something to think about. Also we went during a thunderstorm, which made it look like an empty office space. (we were in the smaller of the two rooms).

We looked at both, and didn't go with either, but if I had to pick between the two, go for the Mandarin.

DH and I personally liked the view. You can see all the way down Gloucester Street and we liked that there was a city street view. We're both city people and we didn't necessarily need a pretty water view or scenic view. We wanted our guests to feel the energy of the city, so in that way it really delivered. To each their own, I suppose.

The outdoor space is public, but they don't allow the public in there when they are setting up for events. The Pru and the Mandarin share the space, but since the Mandarin paid for most of the landscaping and since they do the day-to-day care, they get first dibs on using it for private events or not letting the public in.

Hello, would you recommend a day of coordinator if we don't have a wedding planner for the Mandarin? We have a small wedding only of 70 people. Some say a day of coordinator on top of the Catering coordinator is crucial. Any advice welcome. Thank you!
