Honeymoon

Anyone been to or going to Riviera Maya, Mexico? If so, do you have any hotels you can  recommend? I've been searching all day but it is so hard to decide by just looking at pictures! Any advice would be appreciated! :)

My FI and I went a few years ago.  Don't go in October.  That's when we went. It was still hurrican season, and it was cloudy and rainy every day we were there.  We stayed at the Occidental next to Xcaret park.  The hotel was really nice and all-inclusive, although I don't believe it's adult only.  We decided next time if we go we'd rather stay closer to Playa del Carmen because we went out there every night and constantly had to wait for cabs to take us back and forth to the hotel.

FI and I went last September.  We stayed at Now Jade, an all inclusive.  We went late September and the weather was great.  The resort was very nice.  The food was good, typical of most all inclusive resorts.  There was a nice bar on the beach where we watched football but other than that the night life was non-existent.  The pool was great, you could literally just hang out in the water all day.  The rooms were really nice, and the staff treated us like celebrities.  We didn't do the preferred so I can not comment on that, but the preferred pool was kind of "far" from the main pool so I don't know how much we would have liked that.  The beach was beautiful... white sand, clear water, really nice beach loungers with shade if you needed.  We didn't leave the resort so I can't comment on the local activities.

Whenever we book vacations I use Cheap Caribbean for ideas and then check out reviews on Trip Advisor.

    Good luck!

Just booked my honeymoon at the Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita. Feeling great about the decision. This will be my first trip there, so I can't comment, but I have heard great things about the Secrets Capri, the Excellence, and Secrets Maroma Beach.

Good Luck! Let us know what you decide!

We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach last year for our HM and we loved it. The food was really good, and we are pretty picky. The service was really good and the resort was really nice.

Yes! We have been to Riveria Maya two times and LOVEDDDD IT!.
Both times, we went in early May and the weather was awesome.

The first time, we stayed at the Grand Palladium. It is part of a complex with 3 other resorts, and you can use all of the amentities at the other resorts. The spa there was amazing, with a huge pool and jacuzzis outside that you could use for free.  They had a bunch of pools which were HUGE, including a salt water pool.

The whole complex was pretty big, so they had this trolley kind of thing that would drive you around from each resort. We loved the feel of the place, because it was literally built right into the jungle. They had areas along the walkways with signs that said what kind of animals were living in that area. We also saw tons of iguanas on the property. The rooms were nice, the food and drinks were good. The service was good. They had a theater with shows every night, a theme dinner on the beach one night. Overall, we really liked it.

The second time we went there, we stayed at the Barcelo. It was also part of a complex, but not as big. You could walk easily to the other areas, where they had this huge nightclub that was packed every night, a whole little shopping center (so you don't need to leave the resort to shop if you don't want to). The spa there wasn't nearly as nice as the Grand Palladium. The food was good. They had a few theaters with shows, which were good, but the air circulation in them wasn't great, so it was hot in the theaters.

I would definitely recommend either of these places. I think it was $1200 per person for the Grand Palladium, but that was a few years ago. And it was around $850 per person for the Barcelo, two years ago. (including airfare)
Oh, both resorts are all inclusive too.
Let me know if you want any more info, or want to see some of my pics. I can email them to you.

ETA - both of these places were pretty close to Playa Del Carmen. We went there a bunch of times (which I DEFINITELY recommend you check out), and it was very easy to get a cab (and very cheap). They also have a "collectivo" that you can take which is super cheap and it runs constantly. We took that a few times too. (you can take a ferry to Cozumel too which is awesome).

I've heard great things about Excellence.  We visited Dreams/Riviera Cancun (not Tulum) in April'10.  It was amazing - the resort had just opened and was gorgeous.  It's not adult-only but there wasn't a ton of kids.  There are great restaurants and the rooms were big.  We didn't leave the property, so I don't know how close it is to the nightlife.

The only bad thing was that I didn't get engaged there (and thought I was) but that happened a few months later in Cape May!

We booked Secrets Maroma Beach.  It seems to be a favorite on the honeymoon board.  We had friends that stayed at the Excellance and loved it.  I can't wait!
