Ugh, hate acne!  I never had a single pimple until I was in my 20's.  Not a convenient time to get it.

I tend to break out like crazy when I'm stressed and when I touch my face a lot (which I do when I'm stressed).  The best thing I do for it is invest in good face wash, toner, and moisturizer and try to take the time each day to take care of my skin.  Once in awhile, I get facials, too, which help for sure.  Just don't do one immediately before something where you want your skin to look its best - it's all red.  Or two weeks before - that's when I break out again, bringing all the junk they got to the surface.  My skin is at its best either 1 week after the facial or 3 weeks after.  I don't trust anything in between.

I miss the days when I could just wash my face with Dove soap in the shower and be done with it...

I've had them :P  Those are not fun at all.  What do you do for skin care?  That could make a big difference with that, also drink lots of water as that helps to clean your skin out.

    I hate those ones! GROSS!

Hydrogen peroxide will dry them up before they pop. When you first notice them put a little on a cotton swap and then rub it on the pimple.  It dries them out.  And obviously a good face wash but for serious I HATE pimples.

Ugh, ance.  I wish I could tell you that it would stop when you get older but I don't have that answer.

I had very little breakouts when I was younger... only around my hairline when I sweat a lot or blackheads on the nose.   Since having my son I have it all the freakin' time.  And I have bacne (back acne) too.  It's the worst when I'm really stressing or right before my period, it digusts me!

Oh it's an airplane + hormones thing. Its right where my glasses go on my nose, it already popped, but it was grossssss. I do have some sort of contact dermatitis on my cheeks, but I think that's from my make-up. Good bye still half full tube of foundation and blush, farewell.

Oh and my eczema is back, but it's only on one foot. Score?

You have eczema on your foot?

Brian gets it on his eyelids when he is really stressed out.
  • edited December 2011
Never heard of Eczema on feet or eyelids!

I know people with it on their arms mostly and some with it on their cheeks (face cheeks pervs).

When I was about 12 and started to get pimples I said something like, "I can't wait until I'm 20 and don't get pimples anymore!" to which my grandmother laughed uncontrollably. Gramma is currently 71 years old and STILL gets them. It doesn't look good for me...

I've internet diagnosed myself with this. Luckily it doesn't itch unless its dry, but when they pop it does hurt. And it's only on my right foot. http://dermnetnz.org/dermatitis/pompholyx.html

Hetshup, if the acne is consistent, you might want to see the doctor. I've been battling adult acne off and on for the last four years (I'm 30 now). A few months ago I started oral antibiotics and Retin-A, and my face looks pretty decent now.

Am I the only one who loves popping pimples? I know this is SO gross, but I find it to be really therapeutic. I pop mine when I get them (but I'm pretty lucky and have only very slight acne from time to time, mostly around my chin), and I used to pop my brother's back pimples. I also pop BF's ALL THE TIME (he, unfortunately, has pretty aggressive acne).

    Anyone? Bueller?

Eczima is the worst! I get it on my wrist, my ring finger, my armpits, and a small spot on my hip. I finally went to the dr. about it a month ago. He prescribed Desoximetasone. So far, so good. It's been clearing up any outbreaks w/i 3 days.

I get the worst acne when I'm stressed and when it starts getting hot out. My work costume is really uncombortable and hot so I get a sorts of sweaty at work which causes bacne. gross! BF is so good to me though, he'll swipe astringent over my back and put meds on any 'buddies' that I can't reach.

Now I'm picking at the two pimples on my chin... greeeeat....

Anyone else get those 'cystic pimples'?  The ones that are big and round and painful, but they never come to a whitehead so you can't pop them?

    I HATE THEM!

    Hetshup, check out:

I've been following this woman's advice for about 4 years. I rarely break out, and I get frequent compliments on my skin.

My favorite acne-fighting products are Neutrogena's Acne Stress Control Oil Free Hydrating 3 in 1 Acne Treatment. Its active ingredient is 2% salicylic acid, which is a chemical exfoliant. So it helps keep your pores from getting blocked with dead skin cells, plus it makes your skin feel smoother and look more radiant. I put this on right after washing my face, and then I use Paula's Choice blemish fighting treatment. Its active ingredient is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, which is a gentle anti-bacterial agent that doesn't clog pores and kills bacteria in/on your skin, helping to prevent breakouts. I follow with a moisturizer with sunscreen and then my makeup.

I have 2 face washes that are very gentle and don't dry out my skin. Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser has a pump, It's my favorite, but it's not so good for traveling b/c of the pump. So I also have Olay Gentle Foaming Face Wash with Aloe, which is 100% fragance and dye free, but still gets my skin clean and removes make up. This one might be better for you if your skin is sensitive.

So, those 3-4 products are good for just about anybody, but your sunscreen and moisturizer should depend on what type of skin you have. Here is a fantastic article about sunscreen:

I also have a really great article that I think only went out to Paula's email subscribers on best drugstore products. If anyone's interested, let me know and I can copy and paste into a thread or into a PM.

Cate - I get cystic acne too, you can actually pop the if you can find the pore and stick a sewing needle in it [ weird I know, but not very painful] and you'll hear a tiny pop and then you can proceed to pop it

I've done this, but it gets all crusty and scabby for days afterwards.  Then I inevitably get frustrated and pick the scab, and it's all raw.

    Burger, me too. Embarassed

DH hates it when I'm like "HOLD STILL! You've got a pimple!" He practically RUNS away.

I'm pretty lucky, I have relatively clear skin. I get one or two pimples every now and then... I dunno what causes them- stress, diet, sweat, who knows? But for the most part I have clear, somewhat dry skin.

Oh, my BF and I are the opposite!  He tries to get me to pop his pimples he gets on his back, and I usually refuse.  Sometimes if they're really bad and I know they're sore, I'll help, but it totally grosses me out.

He'll try to pop mine, or pick at things on my skin, and I swat him away.

I kind of get sick pleasure out of popping my own pimples...

oh, this is the story of my life! Ok, not entire life, but I never battled with acne until my 20s, and it popped up at a time when I was off BC. Didn't want to be on BC just for acne, so went to the derm, got on Duac and Tazorac gels which were wonderful. Then the humidity in Barbados made my face EXPLODE. Just couldn't deal with it anymore, so I was quite glad to have other reasons to justify BC, and I'm back using Tazorac at night. Not totally clear yet, but definitely improved.

And whilst I hate their existence, I do get some kind of pleasure from popping pimples :-).

Ok I am so glad that I'm not the only one who likes popping pimples and DH hates it. I mean really hates it when I do it. My face breaks out like crazy all the time so I'm always picking and when it's really bad I end up with scabs all over my chin and I can never leave them alone. Frown
