What did you/are you walking down the aisle to? We are having a band of two guitarists and a violinist play during the ceremony, but I've been listening to different versions of Here Comes the Bride all morning and just can't see myself walking to it.

Back when we first got engaged, I thought we'd do 1,2,3,4 by the Plain White Tees and I haven't really thought about it since. So maybe that, but I'm kind of in planning paralysis at the moment, so I also may stalk the replies here for ideas.

I love Canon in D, but I had planned that for the processional...maybe I could switch it up and do Air on the G String for that and Canon for me...

TJ, I love love love that song. That's a really interesting idea, too. The band can play pretty much anything, so maybe I could get the sheet music to a song that means a lot to us.

I walked to Romanze from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. It was special to Dad and I because we played it together as a duet when I was in high school.

FYI: if you youtube it, the first one that pops up is entirely too fast. No idea what that orchestra was thinking--it's really very slow and pretty.

Trumpet Voluntary/The Prince of Denmark's March. Our ceremony is a giant gorgeous cathedral so it kind of calls for something fairly formal/classical, otherwise I'd do something more contemporary.

I am so glad everyone loves this. I heard it for the first time in high school and have wanted to walk down the aisle to it at my wedding since then. It's really the only wedding detail I thought about before I was planning my wedding. And my dad is a huge Allman Brothers fan, so he'll get a big kick out of walking me down to that song.

Personally, I HATE "Bridal Chorus" (a.k.a. Here Comes the Bride). I find there are two opinions on this piece - those that can't stand it and those who don't feel married without it. If you don't like it, definitely look for something else! I always encourage my clients to be creative.

Since your musicians are a little unconventional (meaning there isn't a lot of sheet music out there for violin and 2 guitars), I highly recommend meeting with the musicians and having them play some pieces for you. Then you know exactly what the music will sound like on your wedding day. Also, that allows them to communicate to you the pieces that they have in their repertoire.

With this ensemble, I would also consider looking at more contemporary music (pop tunes, new age, etc.). It might open up other possibilities for you.

Brie - I think that's why I'm leaning away from the traditional orchestra music. It's an outdoor garden ceremony, and I just don't feel like some of these ceremony songs I'm finding online are fitting the setting. Definitely got some great ideas to add to the list though.

I'm walking down to "Angels" by Robbie Williams. I've always loved that song & FI does too. When I told him I was thinking about walking to it, his face lit up with excitment.

Perhaps an instrumental version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." We haven't decided yet, though. Maybe "Here Comes the Sun" - I wish fi would chime in on this, but he just says it doesn't really matter to him. He doesn't want classical music. though.

Thanks for the advice fiddle! The guitarist is Fi's cousin, who we are really close to, so every time I see him I make him play songs for me. He said they could play a rendition of anything, as long as they have a general idea. They are more of a gypsy jazz type band, but I love to hear them play. I could sit and listen to them for hours.

Also, "Here Comes the Bride" is offensive to a lot of people because of Wagner's affiliation with Hitler. So there's another reason to skip it.

Since it sounds like you're open to popular and classical music, have you checked out Vitamin String Quartet for some inspiration? They do pretty lush instrumentals on every band and song you can think of, and you could probably ask your musicians if they could replicate something you like.

I honestly don't remember. Ceremony music was way low on my list of priorities, so I told the organist no Wagner Lohengren, no Prince of Denmark, and my own personal taste in music runs to Bach and earlier. Beyond that, he picked out everything.
