Let's talk flowers

So, flowers are on my mind. I want to book my florist and I'm getting REALLY antsy about it. Tell me about what you are getting! What will your bouquet look like? What about the BM ones? Bouts? Are you doing centerpieces? If your color is plum, I'll require extra details and you might be my new best friend. If you live in the Philadelphia area, suggest a florist! (I think someone around here went to Carl Alan I just don't remember who).

Here's my bouquet inspiration: I'm doing white garden roses, ranunculus, white anemones and hydrangea with grass loops
The bridesmaids' bouquets will be similar/smaller version, except without the anemones. The bridesmaids will be wearing navy dresses.
For bouts we're doing a simple white ranunculus with blue viburnum accent (it looks like blue berries kind of)

For the reception flowers it will be the same flowers as the bridesmaids' bouquets... a short fluffy arrangement in a clear pedestal vase. I'm debating if I should add the anemones... the linens will be navy blue and we're having gold accents (in the candleholders, chivari chairs etc.) If anyone wants to give input on whether I should have anemones in the centerpieces I would appreciate it  :)

  • I went to see a florist yesterday.
I am using Darlene with Precious Petals. She is in the Huntingdon Valley Area.
I am having Ivory Roses for my BM. i LOVE Roses. I am having roses for me too.
For the reception I am having high and low centerpieces. Mainly Roses with other flowers. Nothing is finalized yet. I just went to visit her yesterday to come up with some ideas. My colors are chocolate, ivory and yellow.

Carl Alan is good too. Where in Philly are you from???

  • My bouquet is going to be either a mixture of white hydrangeas, blush roses with stephanotis flowers with pearls in the middle...or just the blush roses with the stephanotis flowers. The bridesmaids are going to be similar to mine except all white.

The centerpieces are keeping with the same flower combination, mainly hydrangeas and roses. I really like full, bloomy centerpieces without any fillers or leaves.

Our small centerpieces will look like this and will be in a similar silver plated bowl.

Our tall centerpieces will look like this but in a tall silver vase and minus the hanging jewels. It will probably be a little bit more compact than this as I like them more spherical:

Our cocktail table flowers will be something similar to this:

Thats about what I have decided on so far!

  • Courtchase7, those centerpieces are similar to what I was thinking! Good taste :)

  • This is the sketch we got from my florist. It looks pink copied in, but it is actually shades of orange.  The dark pink is dark orange and the light pink is a peachy orange.

  • I booked my flortist a couple months ago (I had a coupon from a bridal fair, otherwise I would have thought that it was too early!) I had a pretty strict budget for flowers, but my florist was really accomodating. It helped to take in pictures of the styles I liked, the colors I liked, plus I read up on what flowers would be in season to save some $$.

My bouquet will be a hand tied style with 2 dozen black magic roses and feathers, the BM bouquets will be much smaller versions of mine (like 6 roses). Bouts are simple, except for FI's. We're doing three different centerpieces on 13-15 tables so I could have my big fantasy CP's by compromising with a few meduim CP's and candles w/petal tables. In the floral arrangements, I'm going to use roses, dahlias, and carnations (I like carnations!!) with some monkey tail and pretty greenery. The big CP's will have some calla lilies also. I'm also doing really small CP's for the cocktail hour tables, just a few roses and greenery. Inspiration pics are in my bio!
  • Thanks everyone for the comments so far! I guess I have a lot to think about. I just started googling all these flower names you speak of lol. I like the bouquet with the roses and hydrangeas, maybe something like that. I think I want small centerpieces bc my room kinda has a lot going on (think Victorian with lots of golds and purples). Everything else i have no idea! @wlevine- I live in center city but I'm getting married in nj. Hungtinton valley may be too far but I'll look into it.

  • I opted for silk flowers and did them myself (HUGE savings and I love that I get to keep my bouquet).  I did all roses for mine.

    Here is all the bouquets:

    My bouquet:

My toss bouquet (as I'm keeping mine):

    Bridesmaids bouquets:

Man of Honour's bout (made to match bridesmaids bouquets)

All the other bouts (the red one is FI's, the white ones are for all the groomsmen, ushers, the reader, and my mother's bf)

As far as centrepieces, this is a mockup (although it has changed slightly since as I found really nice, slightly smaller mirrors with bevelled edges for example)

<div>Thanks! That's actually one of the major reasons that I picked it over another dress. I wanted my dress to "fit" with my venue. My girls are wearing long plum ballgowns and I'm gong to put the boys in black tuxes with plum vests and ties. I think FI is going to wear white tie with tails.</div>

I haven't met with my lady yet, but my flowers are being paid for my by grandmother with a request I go with the lady my aunt chose. She seems pretty good! Here's my inspiration! the centerpiece is actually what I would want for my bouquet, as I'm using lemons for the centerpieces.

    Bridesmaids:

    (I haven't decided which I prefer yet.)

As far as boutineers and whatnot, I'd like to go with white and yellow orchid heads. :) My colors are black, ivory and yellow. The girls are all wearing adorable strapless black dresses (with pockets!).
  • So, I've been hunting around the web at different flower stores nearby. I'll post some links to things I like. (I don't know how to do PIP? Any help here?)

    I LOVE this for me

    For centerpieces I love these:

I think these would be great for the groomsmen

And maybe this for the groom?

That's all I have so far!

  • We just met with florists this weekend and are waiting for proposals.  Our wedding is a little tricky because the men will all be wearing kilts and they are of different clans, so there will be many different shades of red.  My bridesmaids are wearing Apple from David's Bridal.  We pretty much figured out what we needed.

1 Bridal bouquet of mixed red flowers (to tie in with the various tartans) and a few blue thistle (national flower of Scotland)
6 smaller versions of my bouquet for the bridesmaids
    1 toss bouquet
11 boutinieres (Groom, 6 groomsmen,  FOB, FOG and two jr groomsmen)
3 coursages (MOB, MOG and my grandmother)
    2 alter displays
6 bows with Rose and Thistle for the family pews.

Due to costs, we are not doing floral centerpieces.  However, my church does not care if we take the flowers, so we will bring the alter displays and I will put vases out for the bridesmaids flowers at the head table.

  • Okay, yeah we need quite a few flowers too.

    1 bridal bouquet
    8 BM bouquet
    12 bouts (1 groom, 8 GM, 2 dads, 1 grandfather)
    4 coursages (2 moms and 2 grandmothers)
    10 centerpieces
    2 "alter" displays

I'm hoping to do all this for under $2,000 so I'm trying to be realistic with flower choices. (Like no gigantic centerpieces, just very low and small pretty ones).

I haven't talked to a florist yet because I'm going to talk with a lady at a local grocery store so I'll get to it more in the spring time. But here's what I'm in love, love, love with:

I love pretty much everything about it. Everything else will be neutral colors for the wedding with pops of bright green in the grass centerpieces. I think the BMs will wear a sapphire/royal blue color dress. They'll choose their own. No bouts, no corsages.
  • These are so fun!

Court, our bridal bouquets are going to be very similiar. I'll be using irovy roses and then peach roses with pearls in the middle! I'll have 18 roses all together. We're going to wrap the base with lace from my mom's dress.

My MOH will have a mix of ivory roses and peach roses (a total of 9) and my BM will have 6 peach roses. They'll all be decked out with pearls!

  • I booked my florist at the start of December; she's a doll and very talented :)
I'm going for something very soft and classic; kinda like my dress.I want some feathers incorporated in to the bouquet somehow. I really want white roses and maybe some orchids in there. Here are couple "inspirations":

My MOH will have a very similar bouquet but hers will have some colour (she'll be wearing an eggplant coloured dress) and will be a bit smaller. The flower girls will have a kissing ball that will match my bouquet; white roses and some feathers.

The boutennieres will be simple and matching; my FI and son will match me, and the attendants will match.
As for the centrepieces, I was going to do flowers and candles; 4 different vases at different heights with a mix of floating candles, roses and orchids. But I'm really trying to cut back costs (and that arrangement was going to cost me $55/table - I have 19 tables!) so I've decided to do the arrangements myself. I found some beautiful little mirrors, some little candle holders that I will bling up and I'll get a slim vase that I'll wrap some pearl garland around to hold the feather table numbers I bought. I may add one single rose but that would be it. I will also be using my frames on the tables for menus so that will be enough (tables on seat 8). It will be perfect to play up the light in the room because of the reflection of water from the pool above
