non-religious officiants

We're completely stuck on who we should have perform our ceremony.  A judge seems so impersonal & neither of our families has that "lawyer friend" who can do it.  And my FI is seriously atheist & throws a fit when he even hears someone mention "God" at their wedding. I'm officially lost.

fi grandmother is an ordained minister and is marrying us.  You can look them up online. She does non-religious, religious, customizable ceremonies.  She works with anything.

Try this website to find some.  http://www.themonastery.org/

I didn't want a heavily religious ceremony either. While our officiant is a minister of a church his goal is to deliver a ceremony that fits the bride and groom. He is very friendly and open and I'm sure if you contacted him with your concerns he'd be able to help you out.

My FI is agnostic which means he doesn't believe there is a God, but he's not athiest and thinks that there absolutely isn't a God.  For this reason we're having a "spiritual" ceremony, not a "religious" ceremony.  We also didn't want a random person to show up, do the ceremony, get paid way too much money and then leave.  It was our preference to ask one of our best freinds to perform the ceremony.

Our friend got ordained online through Universal Life Church.  I checked with our county clerk (Tippecanoe) and they said we don't have to do any paperwork to "prove" he's ordained. So basically he just went online, put in his name, and now is legally allowed to sign our marriage certificate.

The only complication I've had is now that there's no true "officiant" I have to write the ceremony myself.  I found a good book at the public library and some poems online, but I know this is gonna be a lot of work.

I'm not sure where in Indiana you are, but we used Day of Dreams out of northern Indiana.  They are retired ministers but will create your ceremony with you however you are comfortable.  We didn't have one mention of God in our ceremony.  Check out their website, dayofdreams.com.
