Great places within the USA?

We are trying to think of places to go for our honeymoon. We probably want to stay within the USA, but have no good ideas of specific places to go. We're paying for the wedding ourselves, so we have to be careful with the honeymoon plan. Any ideas?

Las Vegas makes a great HM I think.  There is lots of stuff to do even if you don't gamble.

Your profile says you are getting married in April.  I went to Sedona in April on a trip with my sister and it was heaven.  It's also only 2 hours away from the Grand Canyon which I had never seen.

Also, Hawaii or the Virgin Islands maybe?  Disneyworld?  New York?  Napa Valley/San Francisco?  So many great places!

We're going to California. Santa Barbara, Carmel, Napa and San Fran. Cant wait!!

Not sure when your wedding is but the Pacific Northwest is beautiful!! I did a trip to Seattle and then worked my way down through Portland and the Oregon coast.

California is also an amazing state with tons of great places to see.

If you want a more beachy, "tropical" hm, try Florida. You can fly into Fort Myers and go to Sanibel and/or Captiva Island which are both lovely. I have also heard that the Florida Keys and Marco Island are supposed to be beautiful as well.

What kind of location are you thinking of?

Yay Carmel! I moved to Seattle from Monterey, CA :o) Beautiful hiking there!

It depends on what kind of HM you're wanting.
H and I just came back from Pensacola, FL (his work trip, me tagging along for a mini vaca :P) and it was LOVELY. We stayed right on the beach, there are fantastic places to eat all within walking distance, the water is wonderful, the town itself is great to just walk, it has military history to go tour, etc. It was a nice place for not being a crazy "hot spot" so it's not terribly expensive.

I'm always a fan of the West Coast, but I rarely recommend it because NorCal up to Washington is all hit and msis weather. You have to be looking to specific things for this area.

Totally depends on what kind of honeymoon you want!  Napa if you're into food and wine, Florida beaches if you want the beach vacation vibe, New York, Chicago, San Fran, if you like cities, the Northeast coast if you like cute little seaside towns, the Rockies if you like skiing, anywhere with mountains if you like hiking.

Vegas if you like gambling, Disneyland if you like Disney, DC if you like museums, Grand Canyon if you like nature, LA if you like Hollywood, etc.

If I were picking for myself? I'd either go to Orlando for a few days and hit up the theme parks, stay in a cute B&B somewhere in the Appalachians and go hiking, or, season-depending, go to a quiet, secluded beach somewhere, maybe the Outer Banks.

OP, I noticed that your wedding is in April. I would suggest you not hit the Pacific Northwest during that time (Monterey up to Seattle) because that's rainy/windy season along that entire area... As much as I LOVE THIS PLACE and this this coast has the best places in the US, March-May is definitely not my favorite months here. :o

April is gorgeous in the south, though, because it's warm/hot without being horribly sweltering. If you're leaning toward the west coast, then go hit up San Diego and Annaheim. That area has great weather during that time as well.

If you are getting married in April, here are some recommendations:

I agree on San Diego, the weather is great year round. It's only a 2 hr drive of LA if you want to do the whole Hollywood touristy thing.

Washington DC is a great place to see if you've never been. The museums are free, you can get around by the Metro train/subway system, and won't have to rent a car.

Charleston SC is historic, lovely, and has great restaurants and history sites.

I agree with one of the prior posters, Sanibel and Captiva Islands on the Gulf Coast are great, very tropical.

I've heard great things about the outer banks of North Carolina, and Savanah GA. Never been.

If you want to find good weather in April, search from DC-south on the east coast, and probably LA-south on the west coast.

If you are into nature I'd pick a roadtrip in AZ....Sedona, Grand Canyon, etc. It's incredibly beautiful and romantic. Plus there are lots of adventure activities you can do too. GL!

We're taking an anniversary trip to San Fran, napa, Carmel and Big Sur. It looks gorgeous and we can't wait to go! It might also be fun to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway and do a road trip in Cali from north to south or vice versa.

If you want a big city experience, Chicago is wonderful and there is so much to do! No matter what your style, you'd probably find something there for you.

I have also heard the Florida Keys is lovely for a beach vacation. Other places in FL that are nice include Marco Island and Clearwater near Tampa.

I'll just list places I've been that I loved!! :)

Las Vegas- I was 12 the first time, 15 the second (so I couldn't gamble) but we still had an absolute BLAST!!  Lots of things to do even if you can't/don't want to gamble!!

Washington D.C.- had a memorable vacation there (toured the monuments and a few museums, also took the river boat ride at night to see the Lincoln Memorial at night, went to the George Washington Plantation), there are also caverns and Historical Williamsburg (if you don't mind driving a bit) that were fun to check out!!

Denver- If you are into hiking and such go to the Red Rock Canyons and there is an ampitheater out there!! :)  There is also hot springs nearby!!

We are going to Orlando, Florida and going to the Universal theme parks, as well as Discovery Cove and Aquatica!!  We are still trying to plan a few more things, and are debating going to the beach for one day :)

I'm going to Chincoteague Island in Virginia. It's pretty affordable, and pretty!
