Well this isn't much info but if working is out of the question due to a medical issue then your diet needs to change. What is your calorie intake like now? What kind of food are you eating? As a rule of thumb, you need to reduce your calorie intake by at least 500 calories per day (3500 per week) to lose a pound a week. With that said, do not eat below 1200 calories a day. Eating too little is just as bad as eating too much. I suggest starting to track your diet with myfitnesspal or spark people (both free). Try to eat as clean as possible, stay away from processed foods and sugars.

Track your calories on a site like My Fitness Pal, Spark People, or Fit Day.

Not knowing specifics about your back injury or the limitations it presents, I'd recommend talking to your doctor about exercises you might be able to do. I'd hate to recommend something that would injure you further.
  • You said that working out is out of the question because of a back injury... is that totally true? The only reason I ask, and I'm not doubting you but just playing devils advocate, is that while most injuries "limit" your workout ability, you may be able to still do some form of exercise. Has your doctor told you "absolutely no physical activity"? If not, then I would either speak with your doctor or find a trainer, explain your injury, and see what they can suggest for workouts. if you are able to find some activities that don't hurt your back, it may actually be beneficial, not only to your overall weight and health, but it may actually help your injury and build back some muscles you have lost. Just an example and I know it's not as severe but:
I have a torn meniscus in my right knee. It's been torn for 4 months and I'm having surgery at the end of June. No, I can't do squats or lunges, but I still go to the gym everyday and do other things that don't irritate my knee. Is it easy to say "Oh I've got a knee injury and I can't workout"? Sure. Do I want to sit around, not do anything, and gain back weight I've worked hard to lose? No.
Speak with a medical professional and see what they say you CAN do, then go from there.

    high protein -- low carbs.
  • Weight loss is 80% diet anyways. Like everyone else says, just track your calories and keep yourself accountable to your diet.

    Good luck!
