Hunger Games: SPOILERS, SPOILERS, SPOILERS (in white text)

Alright ladies, I didn't wait in line for hours on end and sacrifice sleep not to talk about this today! Wink

I liked the movie. It wasn't EPIC like I wanted it to be. However, by the time I got home- I already wanted to see it again. I loved seeing the book depicted. And for my entire fitful 5 hours of sleep- I dreamed about HG.

It was magical slipping into bed next to Andrew after seeing a "love story" of sorts. It was the same way I felt after watching the royal wedding and then getting back in bed. It's a combination of secret happiness and comfort. So very warm and fuzzy.

So...I totally want to read the book again. And I actually have it in front of me...but I should be working.

So...now for white text:

My Favorite Parts:
I loved the little duck tail part. So sweet and endearing.
I LOVED the outfits of fire. They gave me the chills. Especially the red dress.

My Least Favorite Parts:
Rue wasn't fully developed. And why couldn't they have the mockingjays sing during her death? Or put in D11's bread? Those would have been easy details to have included.

  • ::sniff:: Are all you gals that went to the premier too tired to talk to me? I'm just aching to talk to someone about the movie. LOL

My theater sold 3,000 tickets and had 13 theaters open.

  • I'm not into HG, but I'm glad to see you pop in!  :)
  • Here are my thoughts (white text)

I agree with everything Lunar said.  I loved the little duck part.  I think there was an excellent depiction of Snow, which will be really useful in later films.

I wish they'd developed Rue's death better.  When the other Tribute from Rue's district saved Katniss's life, it doesn't do a good enough job of explaining if he knew Rue/how he knew her/why he would save Katniss.  I also think the dehydration aspect should've been played up.  They also should've played up Katniss' anger that Peeta joined Kato's search party for her.

All that said, I'm totally seeing it again.
  • Okay, this is what I thought:

Definitely enjoyed how they told the backstory and they set it up perfectly for the third movie. Bob's only complaint was how they didn't really stress Katniss' inner struggle when it came to Peeta. I thought they did it as well as they could in the time frame that they had. I also agree with you guys about Rue's death and the District 11 connection. However, I bawled like a baby when Rue died and then they cut to the D11 uprising.

    I loved:

The duck tail part. And the way they played Haymitch and Effie's relationship. It had me in stitches. I also LOVED her red fire dress. I think I was just fascinated with the sparkles on her shoulder going down her arm.

    I wasn't crazy:

About how stilted her relationship with her mom was. Like, I know that Katniss resented her mom a lot, but I wish she hadn't come across so b!itchy? Idk. I do think they redeemed themselves a lot when they did the halucination.

  • I saw it and now I can play!! (IN WHITE)

I agree that the footage at the beginning was a bit too choppy and close up for me, I would've liked to see steady camera shots and more wide angles of district 12. Also felt that it was kind of awkward since there wasn't much background noise at all. (maybe that was the point)

I would've liked to see a bit more character development of Rue espcially, and also a bit more of Gale and Effie. In the limited time allowed I think they did an ok job with those.

I def cried when Rue died. I knew I would. There was no way I could stop it from happening. I lost it when Katniss was placing the flowers around her, I was afraid they would cut that part.

I can't WAIT for the next one. The second book was my favorite so I really look forward to seeing what they end up doing with that!

  • I really, really enjoyed the movie. I went into it blindly (only seeing the trailer, not reading the books or anything) Katniss seems so brave, and it made me sad that she seemed more like a mom to the little sister than their actual mother. I also loved her braids. I haven't read the books but now I'm thinking that I should.

P.S. Im new here, so I guess I should go over to the new people thread and intoduce myself!
