Bridesmaids Dress Questions

So i need to go bridesmaids dress shopping this month if I want to guarantee that most of my maids are here... so where should I go!???

I want to keep the costs down because my sister is paying for 3 dresses (her and my 2 nieces are in the wedding party). Where have you guys gone that you have found decent dresses for a decent price???

Thanks!

Re: Bridesmaids Dress Questions

  • A lot of people got their dresses at department stores like Macy's or places like Limited/JCrew/Banana Republic.

  • I got my BM dresses at Stardust, and LOVED their dresses.  But the designer I picked wasn't cheap.  I'm not sure if their other lines/brands are any more reasonable, but they have a great selection

You can also try Nordstrom, they have a great selection online, and JCrew is fairly reasonable.
  • I ended up getting dresses from Banana Republic. They always send email coupons, and we got them for 35% off, coming to around 150. They're really cute, and they can definitely be worn again.
I think department and retail shops have great selection and prices.
  • I got mine at Nordstrom. I was very happy at how they looked because it wasn't typical "drapes" that I always see and have worn for BM dresses and it was $90.

  • I wanted something a little nontraditional too and I was surprisingly able to find that at Alfred Angelo. I was scared because they don't have very many prices on their website but my girls' dresses ended up being around 80 with a sale that they had going on!

  • Awesome! thanks so much for your help. I know that they ones that I want are from J.Crew.. but they are around $250, which is not that bad, but I feel guilty that my sister has to buy 3 of them! But they are not so unique that I can't find them with someone else.
  • I was going to get them at David's Bridal. But after a little more research I found some cute ones by Pretty Maids. So I'm going to get them at Bridal Boutique in Lewisville. They are $169.00 Since my daughters are my BM's I'm buying their dresses.

  • We are going to definitely start at the bridal boutique in lewsiville. thats where I bought my dress, and because of that the bridesmaids get 10% off. So thats #1 on our list!
  • I got my dresses at David's Bridal, and I was really happy with them.  Looking back I don't know what I was thinking when I was like, "You could totally wear this again!" but they still looked beautiful.  I think they were regular priced at $135 and my girls got them on sale for $99 or something.

I was laughing with my MOH, who is now engaged and will be the last of the girls she's having in her WP to get married, at the notion that she is going to "get revenge" on all of us for the crazy dresses she's had to wear in our weddings.  Her fiance raised a really great point -- "Forget thinking that your bridesmaids will wear this again.  They will wear what you want and it will look pretty.  Don't stress about finding something they'll be dying to wear again."

  • exactly!!! I would love for them to feel beautiful, but its  special occassion, who wears their prom dresses again? Not many! We are women, and perfectly ok with buying something we will probably never wear again!

We are going to Lewisville Bridal,  alfred angelo and davids bridal. Gotta ge this done before the end of summer, who knows when this many bridesmaids will be in town teogehter at the same time! One of my BM is in Canada and will most likely only come to the wedding,  luckily she is easy going and will wear what we pick (and she is to cute and tiny she will look good in anything... ) So excited to check off another task!
  • If your BMs are from all over, a more national chain like DB or department stores might be the way to go.  One reason I did DB was because of my six bridesmaids, only one lived in DFW.

  • on lives in Canada, the rest are all from DFW. But my niece and nother bridesmaid are in college elsewhere. So they will be back for fittings, but who kows if they will be back at the same time. My canadian bridesmaid will roll with the punches!
  • I let my bridesmaids pick their dresses from Dessy Collection but a certain color, thinking that if they pick them out it would be something that they could wear again. Half of them picked dresses that they'll probably never again. Their decision! So don't worry about that.
  • You can also save money by having Becky do the alterations if they are too expensive at the bridal store!
  • I got mine from DB.  I only have 2 but I didn't want them spending a lot of money.  I think the dresses were on sale for $80.  They both really like them.  I was really chill about it.  I had like 6 to choose from; same length, color and fabric but they could choose the neckline.  Surprisingly they ended up with the same one!
DB said it would take 3 months to get in, but one girl's got here in 2 weeks and the other took a month.  That's probably not the case every time, but so far everything has gotten here quickly.
Just a side note, I also used DB for invitations and some of the BM gift.  You get coupons a lot and the invitations usually have a discount.  They let you order samples and can send you a proof.  I ordered mine super quickly, then figured out I needed to add something to it and was able to order replacements for fairly cheap.  Just something to think about. :)
