Scuba Diving & Snorkeling

Have any of you ladies done it?  How was it?  I don't know how to swim (like literally no clue)  But I don't want to miss out on something great especially when we are planning a vacation that is in the tropics.  I never minded not going in the water when we have gone to the beach.  But some of the pictures I saw are so beautiful, I want to experience the same.  Should I learn how to swim?  FI has been telling for a long while, but I never thought about it seriously.  He can swim like a fish.  I am probably a little scared, and what has kept me from learning partially.  I might not become a strong swimmer in six months, but at least compotentn enough to try those things?  What do you guys think?

It's probably good to learn how to swim, especiall for scuba diving.  If you go snorkeling, you could probaly just wear a lifejacket and float on the top of the water close to your FI.

I used to be a lifeguard...and I'm soooo pro swimming.. it's def a life skill!!

*steps off her soap box* hehehe

Snorkling can be done at the waters surface mainly b/c you use the air from above the water to breath (snorkle sticks out of the water)

Scuba dive is more of a dive under the water....i think you would need to use an air tank strapped to your body.

Sometimes resorts will offer snorkling in shallow areas over coral reefs...so you don't have to do a scuba dive... which is really beautiful to experience :)

I really want to do it, but the more I think about it, I have come to realize I must be scared of water or something.  He has offered to teach me so many times, but I always found an excuse to get out of it.  I am gonna see if I can talk my sister into it, even though she can swim somewhat, I am sure I can talk her into taking a class with me.

I'm THIS close to finishing my certification for Scuba and have taught people to snorkel. They are two of the greatest loves of my life. I encourage you to try both out after some pool practice and careful instruction. They give you enough training before your first time (and safety gear) so that you will be prepared. Try snorkeling first. Wear a life vest. Learn to really use your mask and breathing tube, and you'll be fine! Don't miss out on such a great thing.
