July 2012 Weddings

Hi July Brides! New to the board, wanted to introduce myself.

Hello Ladies!

I have been on the boards for a while, but I didn't find this one until recently.

I'm getting married on July 15, 2012 and I'm so excited!  I am a full time student, so wedding planning and school combined is kind of like a juggling act, but so far, so good. I'm glad to find others who will have the same timeline as I do, because I am not quite so sure about when to do what.  So far, I have booked the venue, bought the dress, and have a photographer and DJ, and sent out the save the dates.

So, anyway, hi!

Re: Hi July Brides! New to the board, wanted to introduce myself.

  • Congrats!!! And kudos to you planning while in school! I got engaged a month before I graduated from grad school, and I couldn't even process the idea of doing them both and I literally waited until the day after graduation to start! so good for you!!!

  • Hey! Welcome!
You're getting married on a sunday? Any particular reason you chose that? I dont mean to be rude, just curious as most weddings are on saturdays or fridays.
And I know the student thing- I am a full time student too, and will be graduating in May! When do you graduate?

  • Thank you all!

I'd love to wait until after graduation, but I'm in for another two years. Thought I could do it in one, but the program is really rigorous.

Next on the list is to get my bridesmaids into their dresses. We sort of found ones that they like (there are only two of them), but we didn't like the colors that much (David's Bridal). I also have to get the invitations designed and bought. I'm having my wedding at a really beautiful catering hall, so I don't think I have to do much more than think about flowers. And favors?

Nice to hear from you and thank you for the warm welcome!

<div>It's a good question. I chose Sunday because the prices were the best, and because my cousin got married on Sunday July 16th last year during the day, and FI and I thought it was really nice. This way, too, our relatives from New Jersey can just drive to NY on Saturday and leave on Sunday evening, so no time off required. Better local traffic on a Sunday too LOL.</div>
  • Oh, and I am supposed to graduate in May 2014.
  • Hi & welcome!  I'm new to the July board too!  You have way more done than I do!  I'm hoping to go look for a venue this week.

  • Welcome to the July 2012 board!

I'm July 14 and finishing up a Master's while working full time.  Wedding planning is awwwwwfullly distracting!  I do not recommend doing all three at once to anyone!  LOL
  • Welcome! I'm having a Sunday wedding as well. The date was just important to us. It will be our 8 year anniversary when we get married. You have much more done than I do at the moment. Good luck finding bridesmaids dresses. We just did that this past weekend and ended up having to go a color shade different.

  • Congratulations! I am getting married on Saturday the 14th.  I am also working full-time and am doing a part-time online graduate degree.  I am so ready for all of it to go away and to get married and go on my honeymoon.

  • Hi and Congrats!  I am new to this board also and will be getting married on Sunday, July 1st.  You have truly done a lot.  I have the venue and going to look at dresses this weekend.  Will be a small ceremony, no bridesmaids so I don't have that worry.

Best of luck and many blessings to you.
  • Congratulations!

I'm July 14th and also a full time student! It is very stressful!

We just did our bridesmaids dresses and it ended up going really well. Ours came from Alfred Angelo cause I like the Jade their better than david's bridal.

  • Hi!  Congratulations!  I'm July 13th and I'm a neighbor of yours from queens (but currently in Italy).  And you're right a catering wall will take care of mostly everything.  A friend of mine who got married on LI used Flowers by Brian (i think they're very popular out there) and they did a beautiful job.

Have you thought of transportation yet?  That's where i'm stuck...

<div>Hi Neighbor! I was thinking of doing my own flowers (I know that might sound crazy). As for transportation, I think that I might just skip it. I am about 99% sure that the ceremony will be at the catering hall. I was thinking about having it somewhere else, although we have booked the slot and paid for it already. My biggest concern was that if I had the ceremony at the hall, I would miss a huge portion of fun trying to get pictures in. So FI and I have decided to do the bulk of the photography on another day at another location that we love. Makes it fairly stress-free for us. That's my goal: fun, and stress-free.</div>

[QUOTE]Hi date twin!! My wedding is also Sunday the 15th. We chose the date for two reasons, first, it is the day before our 8 year anniversary, I wanted the day of but leap year messed me up and I didn't want to get married on a monday. Seconds, Sunday weddings are a Jewish thing. If we wanted Saturday night we would technaically have to wait until after sunset to even start the ceremony. In July that puts us around 9 or 10 before the ceremony starts, which means the even goes crazy late (one cousin gave the next mornings newspaper as her favor, thats how late/early it was!). So by choosing Sunday I can do any time I want, and save some money.

    <div>Date twins!!!</div><div>
</div><div>We aren't religious, but I also didn't want to have a wedding that started very late. Friday weddings start after 7 or 8 PM, and I knew that if my mother was served dinner at 10 PM, she'd have a fit lol. Saturday evening isn't much better, and you have to guarantee many more people than I'm inviting, and it's also more than double per person compared to what I'm paying. I was offered Saturday daytime at one or two places, but declined. I like Sunday! </div>

    <div>Hi Ashbug!</div><div>
</div><div>My semester is over in mid-May, so I will have a bunch of time before the wedding too. I did everything during my semester breaks. We got engaged in August, I had the venue booked by the last week of August, save the dates during Thanksgiving, wedding dress shopping during winter break. When the semester gets into full swing (probably next week, ug) I kind of drop off the planet for a little while. But, wedding planning is kind of a fun thing I can do when I need to get away from school. I do stuff in bursts!</div>
