Reception Extras

I'm pretty sure Allison posted something similar once, but Whit's post about the shoe game on fb today brought it back up - the extra details. Perhaps things have changed since that original post and since we have what seems like a hundred newbies, let's give it another go around. :) Plus, I think we talked about the extra/small details we added for our own personal touch before. So this may or may not be a little different...

Now I want to know, what are you doing that may be "different" than others at your reception?

Re: Reception Extras

  • Hmm, I don't think we're doing anything different. I'm still hoping to have a chocolate fountain in addition to our cake, but that will probably be a last minute decision.

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • We're having a retro icecream truck show up at dessert time, I can't wait!

  • We're having a fire show during dessert as well as a full vineese (sp?) hour.

  • For me it is my favor table.  Since I am trying to stick with a "Florida & Tropical" theme, I am having vintage crates of oranges for favors.  There are little white bags that guests can fill with oranges on their way out.

  • We are having a special dance for FI and my daughter instead of the traditional dad/daughter dance since my dad is no longer with me.
  • nothing too out of the ordinary here...photobooth, siggy drinks, garter/bouquet toss with all males/females (not just singles)

  • Well you mentioned one of mine, the shoe game.

We will be having it snow on our first dance (snow machine over the dance floor)

We're having a monogramed GOBO on the wall behind the head table.

We're doing the "Kissing Box" which is where the DJ will call on couples (whose names we already gave him) and that couple will kiss. However they kiss and whatever routine they do it in, FI and I have to copy them!

We're doing the dollar dance (common in my area) and donating the proceeds to the American Cancer Society in honor of FI's deceased mother.

FI will be putting my garter on a football and "hiking" the garter instead of flinging it.

    Anniversary Dance.
  • We are having a candy bar buffet.  It's not something typically done around here so I suppose it would be considered different.
We are also not doing a garter toss or bouquet toss.  Instead we are having all the married couples do a dance.  The DJ will dismiss them by years of marriage.  The last couple (longest married) will get flowers and a gift card for dinner.
Still haven't decided if we are going to do the dollar dance which is really common in this area and most people look forward to it.  So we will see!  I know it's a faux pas on the knot but oh well.  I'd have been arrested by the knottie police a long time ago if that was the case.
  • Hmmm.  We're doing a thumbprint guest book, not sure how unique that is now.  I love it though.

I also bought a wine box (it's extremely similar to this one, just no photos - http://www.amazon.com/Photo-Wine-Box-5pc-Set/dp/B005EHHP8Y ) and bought a bottle of pricey French champagne to put in it.  I'm going to have a stack of paper and pens next to it for people to write well wishes to us and then at the end of the reception we're going to close up the box and not open it until our first anniversary.

I can't think of anything else unique we're doing.  Although I plan to dance to the Cha Cha Slide in my wedding dress, LOL!  I love that stupid dance.  Everyone will have to give me a wide berth so as not to step on the dress.  I did instruct the DJ not to play it until 9:30 or later, when I should hopefully have a few drinks in me!

  • We're doing several of the things you guys have already mentioned.. :)

    - Candy buffet and photobooth for favors, although neither are "unusual"
    - Bride/Groom shoe game
    - Dollar Dance (I was on the fence about this one although there's only been one wedding I haven't seen it done, but our DJ convinced me. He said he does it over 75% of the time.)
    - The "football" garter toss (pinterest much, Whit? :)
    - Well wish table instead of a guestbook
    - Anniversary Dance
    - Sparkler send off
