Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

All Beatles Ceremony Too Much?

We're having a nonsecular ceremony outside in the woods near a log cabin.

I am a big Beatles fan and my fiance likes them well enough to allow me to make our theme "All You Need is Love"

On top of that, I had created a playlist for our ceremony with all Beatles songs. That being said the reception will not feature any Beatles songs. The reception will feature the slogan "all you need is love" in the center pieces, some decor, cake topper and cocktail napkins.

The ceremony would be as follows:

While People Wait:  The Beatles: I want to hold your hand; When I'm 64; Love Me Do; She Loves You; All My Loving; Can't Buy Me Love; It Won't Be Long; Here, There and Everywhere… Wings: Baby I'm Amazed, Silly Love Songs

Bridal Party Entrance:     All you need is Love- Beatles

Bride Entrance:                 Here Comes The Sun - Beatles

Couple Exit:        Til There Was You – Beatles (or maybe 8 days a week)

Re: All Beatles Ceremony Too Much?

  • I grew up on classic rock and love the Beatles.  It looks like you have about a dozen songs you want to play, mostly back-to-back.  I'm on the fence if this is too much.  I feel like most guests won't mind it, especially if they know you're a Beatles freak.  The people who really aren't into that style of music are going to be pretty miserable for that time, though.

I do have a suggestion for you.  There's a classical group called Trio Rococo that has several albums covering Beatles songs in an instrumental only arrangement.  There are probably other similar covers out there as well.  I have Trio Rococo's Norwegian Wood cover and it's really well done (I'm not usually a fan of covers).  Maybe do a mix of original Beatles music with some of the instrumental covers?  I think TR's style would fit really well into the ceremony part of a wedding.
  • I love the Beatles so I might be biased, but I think it's fine to use all their songs for the ceremony, as long as you don't do that for the reception, like you said.

  • No I think that's great! Maybe stay away from some of their Yellow Submarine songs hahaha! "We all live in a yellow submarine... a yellow submarine... a yellow submarine..." Actually that might be a fun thing, having everyone join in song! Easiest song to learn and pick up.
  • I love The Beatles so I may be somewhat biased:-) However, the one thing I questioned looking at the playlist was the choice of music for the prelude. Here There and Everywhere, Love Me Do, When I'm 64, and the Wings stuff is good. However I worry some of the other songs might be a little too energetic (I would personally advise maybe considering having those at the reception or for your exit? "Til There Was You" on the other hand has a relaxed feel that might be better for your prelude...sorry huge music geek). That said I really like the earlier idea of instrumental covers too.
Remember, people will pay attention to the music at the important parts of the ceremony (and definitely at the reception) but the prelude is more music for ambience (something in the background so you don't have that dead silence that's uncomfortable but that people can chat and catch-up over i.e. not too loud or overly noticeable).
Hope that helps you out. Other then that rock on:-)
  • Thanks ladies! I'm feeling MUCH better about this. I love the instrumental idea and the suggestions to have the prelude a little more tame and exit a little more PARTY :)

    Have a great day!
  • Eeekkk!!! This is awesome! :D I loooove the Beatles as well, and our theme is going to be a music theme and I'm using the "All You Need is Love" on napkins and favors and the invites and such as well. I'm using an instrumental version of the song for my entrance! :) It sounds like you've got it all figured out and it'll definitely make it a unique and fun-for-everyone ceremony! You go girlfriend!!!! Hehe.
