2-week detox plan starting monday

Well, I've been doing really good for the last few months and hit my lowest weight on Friday Feb 5th, but with Valentine's, I've been very very bad and I gained it all back!
So, starting Monday, I am starting a 2 week cleanse which means I will be eating only fruits for breakfast, steamed vegetable for lunch and salad for supper. With the occasional bowl of brown rice. Nothing else, no dressing, salt, milk nothing.
I'm excited to get started! Anyone want to try this with me?

  • You'll probably get ripped to shreds for this. I'm just warning you. There are a lot of girls on here that will NOT agree with this plan. I'm not tearing it up, but I hope it works for you. Good luck to you!
  • That's a terrible idea.

If you want to help flush the nasty out of your system, just eat clean.  Cut out processed things.

Your body needs (good) fats and protein in order to function, so cutting those things out is dangerous.

You won't be eating any type of protein or fats at all?

I'm sorry to say this doesn't sound very healthy and you are probably going to be starving all the time.  This is an extremely low amount of calories and you aren't going to be getting many of the nutrients your body needs.

  • Bahahhaha, good luck with that. I hope you enjoy any weight you lose magically reappearing once you start eating normally again.

  • If you added in some avocado and olive oil, as well as lean protein, that would be a better way to go.

You'll find most people on this board don't support "crash diets" like the one you're proposing.

  • Honestly, I don't think you'd be able to last 2 weeks eating like this. If you want to do a little bit of a detox, my nutritionist had me do the following before starting a healthy eating regimine:
B: 2 eggs cooked as preferred, 1/2 Orange
L: chicken breast, salad and/or either raw or cooked veggies and the other half of the orange
D: beef, chicken breast, or turkey with sald and/or either raw or cooked veggies
S: as many raw veggies as you want
    for 3 days only
    Drink lots of water.
And I'll have you know that it was hard to do that for just 3 days! I ended up losing 5lbs in just those three days. But I wouldn't recommend what you're attempting to do. There is no protein... my nutritionist didn't even recommend going more than 3 days without eating healthy fats and carbs.

  • I used to be a competitive rhythmic gymnast. When broken bones forced me to stop, I gained about 30lbs on my small frame. Then I began a series of crash diets designed to help me get it off quickly. The last thing I tried was a juice fast that lasted 9 days.

I lost a fair bit of weight (about 12 lbs), but I was MISERABLE the entire time and completely incapable of doing anything productive. Immediately following this, I began eating healthy and clean and gained the weight all back, plus *30lbs*, within 2 months. I spoke to my doctor, told him I was eating really healthy, and he couldn't figure it out. Eventually I told him about the fast and he explained that I'd royally messed up my metabolism and that it could take two years before it corrected itself, which meant two years before I would ever again be successful in losing weight.

This diet you're planning on doing seems to be very much the same as what I did. All fruits and veggies, very low calorie. I absolutely do NOT recommend doing this. I think it's very likely you'll wind up with a completely messed metabolism and as soon as you start adding more calories back in again, you'll gain all your weight back and then some. It could also make it impossible for you to lose weight for a long time afterward. Cleanse diets can really mess you up.

I finally started losing weight the healthy way a few weeks ago (9 years after stopping gymnastics), and the weight is melting off far more quickly than it ever did on a crash diet, and I'm confident that it will stay off.

Moral of the story: Crash diets will make you gain weight after your initial loss, and there are no tricks to fast, healthy weight loss.

Exactly this. Put on your fire resistant suit....
  • Thank you for all your comments.
Much appreciated and what I needed to hear.
Glams, you make a very good point actually, I did a "detox" about 3 years ago and had only lost a few pounds but for some reason, even though I was eating healthy and exercising, it took my body about 2 years to "kick" into gear and all of a sudden, I was loosing weight even though I wasn't watching every bite I was eating. I will definitelly reconsider going down that slope again :-)

    Thank you!!

The reason for this is because "detox" plans like the one you proposed royally screw up your metabolism.  When you restrict your diet that much, your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto every last calorie it can get.  Your metabolism slows down and it can take quite a while to get it back to normal.
