Reception Timeline

So I remember a previous post about everyone Reception Timeline, however, I can't find it in any of the previous posts'. What is your reception timeline?
I just got off the phone with my DJ and I told him I wanted to get everything out of the way so that we can party the night away, this is what he suggested:
Introduction
First Dance
Mother/Son Dance
Father/Daughter Dance
Invocation
Toast
Cutting of Cake
Dinner
Party
Half way -Bouquet Toss/Garter Toss
Party
Last Slow Dance
Exit

What is your timeline? Any Suggestions?
I'm not too fond of the cake cutting before dinner, what are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: Reception Timeline

  • I would break up all the dances at the beginning. Otherwise, people will be watching you for, like, 10 minutes and they might get bored. We are doing something like this;

    -Intro
    -First Dance
    -Dinner
    -Cake
    -father/daughter
    -mother/son
    -Party
    -Exit

We are also not doing a bouquet or garter toss.

  • I have our photographer for 4 hours, from 1-4. I wanted to get all the dances out of the way right away so that the photographer could get some shots. Otherwise I wont have any dancing pictures or cake cutting pictures Undecided

  • I am afraid your photographer is going to miss out on lots of important things, like cutting your cake and all three of your dances. Could you add them for another hour or two? our photographer allows us to add hours on to our package for an hourly rate (we had an accident and ended up adding llloootttsssss of hours to ours).

  • This timeline is very similar to a wedding I attended last weekend. The problem there was that by the time guests were finished with dinner and the dance floor was open, they were ready to leave. I felt bad because no one danced. But if you know your crowd and they will stay and dance regardless, then that's not a concern. I wonder if you can do one special dance, start dinner, then do the others while people are eating? You could also do toasts and cut the cake during dinner.
  • I don't want to add another hour because were on a budget and that extra hour will be hard to scramble money for :(
