What's New Tuesday?

Hope everyone is having a great day so far!  Any plans for Independence Day?  I haven't figured out what I'm going to do, but I have a package of patriotic sugar cookies that I've been waiting to bake.  I've got to find some people to hang out with or I'll eat the whole thing by myself!

Re: What's New Tuesday?

  • If you were closer, I"d help you eat those cookies in a heartbeat.  Yum!

I finally got our first appointment scheduled with our priest for the wedding.  I had been getting worried b/c we were first told just to contact the marriage coordinator for the diocese and she would take care of things from there, it took me several months to finally get in touch with her and meet.  At our meeting she seemed a little surprised that we hadn't already been assigned a priest and started meetings (how was I supposed to know to set up myself, when everyone told me that SHE was the contact person?)  Anyway, she then told me that they were reassigning priests in the area, so whoever was at the church then wouldn't be doing our wedding anyway.  I was told to wait until after the end of June to call, called yesterday, and heard back from a priest today.  I was getting worried that we'd run out of time and not get everything done before October 20, but I think we'll be OK now!  (Geesh sorry, that got long!)

We're heading out to western ND tonight after work to spend the weekend w/ FI's family.  HIs brothers go all out on a fireworks display, and hopefully I'll get some lake time in too!
  • Mmmm...cookies!

Erin -- glad that things are working out. Sounds like that would be a super-frustrating experience.

This is a super-weird week for us with the Fourth in the middle of it all. H is off Mondays in July, and does 4 10-hour days the rest of the week. He was out the door early this morning. Tonight, he has a bachelor party for his good friend who is getting married Saturday, so he's going there from work. I can only imagine how exhausted he'll be tomorrow. We'll probably lay low, since it will be our only chance to do so. Then two more long work days and the wedding on Saturday. Whew! I already think I'm ready for Sunday!

  • FI and I will be going to my sister's house for a cookout.  All my sisters will be there, plus their families.  It should be a fun time!!  I am REALLY looking forward to some deviled eggs :)  I'm thinking we'll leave before the big fireworks display (we can watch a local one from her deck...and this year they claim it's the biggest display in VA!) because otherwise we'll be stuck in terrible traffic, and I don't want to be out too late on a worknight.

  • My parents are throwing my fiance and I an engement party! I'm really getting excited. When my mom told me back in march when we got engaged, that she was going to do something for us in July, that felt so far away. I think our November wedding will be the same sort of feeling.

Anyway, they're going kind of crazy with the whole thing.(In a fun way)
They're having a Pig Roast/BBQ, and my mom got all of these great decorations from work. (she works at the venue where my reception will be held) So we have a bamboo fountain, a Tiki Hut Bar, tiki masks, etc. I'll have to share some photos. :)

It will also be the first time our families will be meeting each other.

    Hope everyone enjoys their holiday!

The Kreeft class was amazing. I'm very overwhelmed and still in a fog-- It was an elective for certification, but next year they are offering another elective class that I really want to take- "TOB and the interior life" by Fr. Tim Gallagher. I may take one look at this test and decide I'll just do next year's instead.

It's not the concepts that are that difficult to get, philosophy is a whole new vocabulary/language.

I'm leaving tomorrow to drive 3 hours to play in the house band for the Steubenville youth conference this weekend (and next weekend). I still haven't gotten a vaca yet this year because funerals came up, so Im' hoping I can just stay down there in between the 2 weeks and go to Branson and the lake. I love playing the Steub conferences-- they are so much fun, and its so incredible to see 3000 teens in an arena praying and singing.

This pic is basically my view-- (I play keyboard, not drums. A very good friend of mine plays drums- he played drums when the pope came to St. Louis).

  • Christina -- that sounds like so much fun (and sounds seriously yummy!).

Agape -- both experiences sound amazing (Kreeft and Steubenville).  I hope you are able to get some down time in, too. You definitely deserve it! :)

  • I'm going to my brother's and SIL's 4th of July party.  It's an annual event for the family and all of their friends.

And today I'm making potato salad for 90 people.  No, my brother didn't ask directly but every year his guests tell me how delicious it is so I feel I would be letting them down.  lol

Almost everyone brings something as well.  They provide the raw bar, kilbasa (sp?)  hamburgers, hotdogs, ribs, wine, beer, soda, water, etc.  I don't know how they do it!

Rain is forecast for tomorrow so they are out renting a tent now.
  • I'm excited for tomorrow too. My BIL always hosts a smoked BBQ (he has someone come over with a smoker on a trailer) It's always really good. I think I'm more excited that I get to sleep in though!

Agreed!  Well, let's say that I *hope* I get to sleep in!  FI's dad does shift work and is such an early bird that I usually can't sleep in past 8/9 am at the most when we visit.  I know he tries to be quiet, but the guest room is so close to the kitchen there's not much that can be done.
  • Oh Hello! I am hardly ever on here because I don't have internet in my place yet...

I am SO excited for tomorrow....I have made a date to Skype with H tomorrow morning at 8:30A.m.  Which is something like 3:30pm for him. His ship made port in France for this week. (Lucky dog!!!) As hard as this deployment is I am super excited for him to get to see the world.

I am going to hang out with some friends... probably hang out at the pool and just relax. I need to finish packing my apartment up.

  • I hope it doesn't rain on anyone's awesome bbq (ya'll made me hungry btw).  Just getting together with some friends, making a little dessert, watching some fireworks.  One of my fiance's friends is popping the question tomorrow so we're waiting for that to go down :)
  • We (my family and I and FI lol) are doing a machine gun shoot, I'm super excited!

<div>That is exciting!! My friend and her BF have been talking about getting engaged. Even though I'm halfway across the country I'm so excited for them. I can't wait until she's engaged too so we can talk wedding stuff without abandon :) She texted me today that he was at the jeweler! Makes me all giddy! I don't know him quite well enough to attack him and make him tell me all about what he's picking. Apparently he's doing it all himself. Would make me kind of nervous - FI and I went together, just because he was unsure with all of the options and I kind of figure, it is a big investment, why shouldn't it be something we talk about together? I get that it isn't as romantic perhaps but it worked for us. But we're also practical types so. :)</div><div>
</div><div>It is supposed to rain here tomorrow so FI and I are planning on studying for the bar as if it's just a regular day. Then Thursday, we'll take a half day and have sort of a "belated" celebration. </div><div>
</div><div>Thursday we're also taking in my ring to have its first "check up" (one of those warranties where if you take it to the jewel every 6 months they guarantee all the diamonds, plus who doesn't love a new sparkly-clean ring?) so it's really hard for me to believe he bought it a whole 6 months ago (almost) now. And then I look up and see that we have just under 500 days until our wedding! My oh my!</div>

  • Our rings are also going in on Thursday for the second check-up.  On the first one they discovered that one of the diamond chips was missing and they replaced it for free.  But I hated being without my ring for a couple weeks.

  • Thanks for the ring check-up reminder. Mine is due. I'll take it on Thursday or this weekend! It's also perfect timing, because I've been getting just enough occasional swelling to not like wearing them. I've been wearing a birthstone ring that has always been a bit too big instead.
