Where to buy Lace for a dress?

Hi, I was wondering if you ladies know of any good stores that sells lace for wedding dresses? I made the mistake of buying a dress that I am not in love with, I love the top of the dress ( it is a halter with tons of lace and beading), the bottom is A line with a split where there is lace in the middle, but the sides of the split are too plain for me. I talked to a seamstress and she said if we could find lace to match, then adding lace and bead work could be easily done. I went to Hobby Lobby, Joann Fabric and Michaels but I haven't seen any bridal looking lace there. Do you girls know of any lace shops around Pittsburgh, or any good web sites? Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: Where to buy Lace for a dress?

  • For a wedding dress, you're going to need much higher quality lace than the stores you listed.  Also, I doubt you can find lace that matches completely just by looking online.

Honestly, the seamstress/dress shop should be telling you where to get lace.  And I'd try to get the same lace for the whole bottom of the dress if you really want to go this route.  But if it were me, I would either love the dress I have or buy a new one....you might pay less in the end just buying a whole new one.
  • There is a specialty fabric shop in Mt. Lebanon. They well have something similar to what you are looking for. I think the idea of altering the dress to make it you're own is smart and fun. I made Mt dress my own with alterations and I loved it when it was done. Not every one can afford to go out and buy a new dress because one little thing, that can be changed, bothers them.

  • The Fabric Place in Mt. Lebanon - they are very wonderful ladies and helpful !

I personally have not had anything made there - but use to get material there for dance costumes when I was younger !
