Westmount Flat screens

Hey ladies! So I am getting married at the Westmount Country club. Our coordinator is Bobby. We are having an issue because they won't permit us to use their 2 flat screens at our reception. Because of this, we have to pay an extra $500 to have the DJ include that into our bundle.  Did any of you ladies have this same issue? I just don't think its fair to pay $20k for a wedding and not be able to touch the 2 tv's that are already hung on the wall. We need those tv's to display our baby pics. what do you ladies think?

I haven't run into this issue, but that seems really unfair, did they mention why you could not use them?

they said that the Tv's are used for "video confrencing" but I know for a fact that they can be used for a wedding. Because we aren't using their preferred vendor for the DJ thats why they are giving us a hard time. When I called up one of the Preferred vendors they said that they always use the tv's. I think its bullshit that I cant use their screens because we arent using their DJ as a vendor..

Wow. Between this and the mandatory florists, is there any other venue around here that's so restrictive?

I am not surprised.   I had friends looking for a venue and they loved the westmount but all the restrictions as far as vendors is ridiculous.

Are you sure that the tvs aren't owned by a certain vendor?  When I went to Nanina's and the South Gate Manor they both had screens in the room but they said they were owned by a certain vendor and not the hall itself so you had to use that particular vendor in order to use the screens.  If you used a different vendor, then they would have to set up their own screens to use.

Yeah, I rest my case......this is why most vendors hate working there, many that I approached said they almost blackballed the place a few years ago because they are so restrictive (down to telling the vendors what they have to wear!)

They may be restrictive, but that's probably why the venue is one of the top ones around, IMO. I personally think there's nothing wrong with having a dress code for vendors...I wouldn't want a vendor who was visible all night (such as a photographer) wearing jeans, for instance. Although I'm sure that anyone booking the Westmount would be using reputable vendors who would not wear jeans!

As for only being able to use 2 florists though, that's a little crazy. I don't care for their one in-house florist, but he does beautiful work!

The TV thing sounds a bit unfair, but if it's the same as PP mentioned about Naninas, then it makes sense.

I suppose that is subject to opinion.  Sticking with the facts, it's one of the most expensive around.

Agreed! I've been to two weddings there & loved it, but that's just my opinion. Not every venue is for everyone.

Definitely very expensive, but service & food were great!

My friend had her wedding there and used the preferred DJ and she had TV's from the DJ as well - so I don't think it matters if you use their preferred DJ. Her DJ was also a really good deal IMO....$2k for the TV screen, uplighting, DJ lighting, baby pictures, and two DJ's. They played really good music too...totally stuck to their playlist.

My DJ is one of their preferred vendors and he said they have to have their own TVs too. I believe he told me that those TVs are only monitors. I think during your ceremony or reception (not really sure) they show you up on the screen.
  • edited December 2011
Thats all you need to show a slideshow is a monitor......

Sounds fishy and inconsistent.  I would call them on it and say that others on the knot are using them, so why can't I!!!!

I got married at the Westmount this summer and I have to say they do a top notch job.  From start to finish it was a wonderful experience and I would not change a thing.  I have been to many NJ weddings and I'm sure I am biased b/c it was my own, but it really is an awesome place.

They have 3 florists to chose from and if you can't find one of the 3 you like that is pretty silly.  I used their in house guy and he was wonderful and we got to use stuff that matched our wedding from the night before which was awesome.  He also knew the Westmount In and Out from working there so much and I found that very comforting.

As far as those screens go, they do use them for web viewing of your wedding through their webstie.  I'm not sure if people use this, but it could be neat for some out of towners that don't come to the wedding. I wanted to use it for photos to and they said no.  Most Djs (I don't know from experience) come with their own screens anyway. My band did and we actually just did the montage at the Rehearsal Dinner.  Most people don't really pay attention to it anyway at the wedding.  They are to busy drinking, dancing and EATING especially at the Westmount.

    Sorry just my opinion!
