Millenium vs. Omni vs. Colonnade

On the verge of a decision but a bit torn between these venues. Thoughts pros and cons (esp. experiences) would be much appreciated. Hoping to decide by Wednesday. Thanks!

Re: Millenium vs. Omni vs. Colonnade

  • Out of those three, I only looked at the Colonnade for my wedding and I wasn't impressed with the ballroom. It seemed kind of ordinary and there were no windows. Having the cocktail hour in the pool area is awesome and the guest rooms are lovely, but those factors couldn't make up for the actual event space, IMO.

The Omni Parker House I've only been to for work meetings and the ballroom is nice, but it's very traditional and it seemed dark to me.
  • We looked a the Millenium.  It was really pretty with a great locatin, however I was seriously concerned about the size and shape of the "ballroom" and space for cocktail hour.  I don't think this venue could work for a wedding larger than 100.

<div>shimtown - Yes, that is my concern as well. I am planning on 130 guests and they say they can fit 150. My parents seemed to think it was big enough but I just don't see it. Barring the concern about size, I would say this would be a winner for me. The view and location, especially for out of town guests, is amazing.</div><div>
</div><div>JB - I am so torn about the Colonnade. I LOVE the whole area behind the glass doors with the black and white tiled floor. I think the ballroom is elegant but ordinary, and I don't like that it has no windows. I feel like if I am going to have a Boston wedding, then it would be nice for guests to know they are in Boston. With an enclosed room, they could be anywhere. The idea of cocktails on the rooftop pool is cool, but that is only an hour long...</div><div>
</div><div>Omni - I have seriously mixed feelings about the "oldness". In some respects it is kind of cool and would make for good pics. But I am not sure that is really my style per se. The rooftop ballroom seemed light and airy when I saw it during the day. It can look very pretty from pics I have seen of the room all set up. And nice that there is a bit of a view + outdoor access. I did not like the cieling of the ballroom, but apparently they are redoing it as well as putting in new curtains.I also like the roominess of having the entire top floor. But just not sure it is my style. </div>

  • I'm also looking at the Millenium... the prices look really good considering the location and view! We're going to probably invite around 150 but I think we'll get a lot of people who don't come (lots of California-based people) so space might not be an issue. Anyone else have any thoughts on Millenium?

<div>Just be careful when pricing out the Millenium. It looks less expensive initially, but that is because they do not include a ton of things that some other places do, such as: room rental fee ($1500!!), wine with dinner is additional, vendor meals, bartender fees. Also they only have 3 courses and a choice of 4 h-d's. Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples when you price the venues out because when I added these non-included fees it came out to around 30k for 130 guests which is basically the same as the other venues I'm looking at. You probably already know this but just thought I'd mention it b/c I did not realize that wine was not included until today! </div><div>
</div><div>Other than that, I really do like the Millenium. I felt a bit like they pulled a bait and switch on the pricing, but I'm getting over it. Going back to see it on Friday. That view is just phenomenal.</div><div>
</div><div>Langham is a good suggestion. Not sure if I can coax the parentals to view any additional places, but I will give it a try. I was trying to keep the reception costs to 28k but I've kind of resigned myself to 30k which seems to be what most packages in my price range come to (with the bells and whistles that I want).</div><div>
</div><div>Re. Colonnade - thanks so much for the heads up about the contract. I will definitely keep an eye out for that if we get to the contract stage. I will put my attorney skills to work. ;-)</div><div>
</div><div>Thanks to everyone for your replies!!</div>

  • Have you considered the Seaport hotel... it  has beautiful windows overlooking the water?
  • I looked at the Seaport Hotel.  It was nice, but felt very generic to me.  Though some of the ballrooms have windows, some don't and the windows seemed like an after thought to me. Plus they have several ballrooms, so there can be multiple events taking place at once, which I didn't like.  It just wasn't my cup of tea, but there are good reviews of the it out there.

<div>Jen & Mimmer - Yeah, I did consider the Seaport and even got their package info etc. but I decided against it due to location. Thanks for the suggestion though! I decided against the Hyatts (Cambridge and East Boston) for the same reason. I like the idea of guests being right in the middle of things in the city.I think Royal Sonesta and Marlowe are close enough to things for me, but I think Marlowe might be a little too leopard print for me, and RS seems really expensive...unless I'm misreading their package? </div><div>
</div><div>Agh! I keep on going back and forth between Millenium, Omni and Colonnade. Hell, I haven't even completely discounted Westin Copley although my dad feels the room is too plain Jane...I actually like it. I will be sooo happy when the decision is finally made and I can stop obsessing!</div><div>
</div><div>I looked at the Langham package again today. It looks fine EXCEPT that they do not include wine and their house wine is $45/bottle. If you figure about 60-64 bottles for 130 people, maybe slightly less, that is pretty significant, especially considering the 45 is exclusive of fees/taxes.</div><div>
</div><div>I even exchanged emails with someone from the State Room who maintained it would be possible to do it for 30K. Meh, I just don't want to feel like I have to cut out things or skimp. I am sure the view is fantastic but I would rather have  something more luxe. I hate the idea of room rental fees. Zero value for the customer and near 100% profit for the venue. I would rather spend 5000 on food and drink than on nothing. Anyhoo, not sure why I am ranting all the sudden! ;-)</div><div>
</div><div>Going back to Millenium tomorrow to look at the space again. We'll see...</div>

</div><div>Thanks for letting me know about Millennium - I didn't realize that the wine isn't included with dinner! I think I'll still have a look at it because the location is just so great, but thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to ask for more detail on the pricing!</div>
  • If you haven't decided yet, check out the Long wharf Marriott. Beautiful ballroom with harborview. They're package is great.
    You have to see it!
