Invites - Round One (PIP)

Okay, here is a very, very, very rough draft of the invite style I'm hoping to achieve. Just a few points:

1. I know the formatting is a bit wonky but I'm not too worried right now. Just wanted to get it out.
2. There are staples holding it together right now. Imagine no staples, but eyelets holding it together instead.
3. Not sure how else to make it look special-er. Hah! Okay, more special. Ideas?
4. Our colors are black and white with touches of silver.
5. The pics are a bit dark because they're from my iPhone.

Here's a link to my inspiration invite... mind you, mine doesn't look so great at this point, especially compared to the inspiration.

I think they look nice; its a good start.  Adding some ribbon to the edge will dress it up a lot.  Any border or color may help too?  Could you do a silver paper?  Or alternate black & white pages?  Or add a damask or some other black & white pattern?

Have you looked into how much this will cost to mail?  With all those pages, it could be pretty expensive.

Ooh, good thoughts/suggestions! They look pretty heavy, but really they aren't. It's 4 cardstock pages which I don't think is much more than say a pocketfold invitation. I think I may have to special order some envelopes though, so by sheer size they may be exra postage. But I'm not sure yet, Hopefully it's not too expensive :o)

I really like the idea of black and white, but I think the only "problem" (although I don't want to call it that) is that it is so simple it's hard to make things stand out.  I would definitely think about doing some embossing or something, if not could you do shades of grey?  For example, the graphic that's between your names.  I just think it needs more demension.

Also, if you're going to stick strictily with black and white (not sure how much you mean by hints of silver), you might want to have some bold patterns or something as you get into planning things for the wedding.  Great start!

I really like those.  I love the idea of eyelets.  Thanks for the inspiration :)

It's a great start!  LOVE the font you selected! What is it?
I agree with Amandasw...with black and white, you will have a little more difficulty getting it to stand out. Here are some ideas:

    • One thing about the inspiration photo that makes it a little more interesting design-wise is the super-large damask shape in the background. Perhaps try finding one that is a little more ornate and blowing it up larger.
    • Custom stamps that large for your names might be a little more than you want to spend. I can see two different options though. You COULD do an inverse for the cover, which will make it more flashy. Get white or silver ink and stamp your names on black paper. To make it stand out more, use silver or white embossing powder. A slightly cheaper method is to buy an embossing ink pen, and then you can trace over the names after printing and sprinkle embossing powder on it.
    • Adding texture. Embossing as mentioned. Also, patterned paper as Amandasw suggested. Something like this could work, but I would definitely do a sample to make sure it's not too busy for printing the cover on. However, it would look pretty as the backing that you fold up over the edge to put the eyelets through. Silver on black, silver on white?

    • You could stamp the damask in silver and then print over it with black. A large stamp can be more expensive, but also check out the home decor area for stencils.

I really like KST's suggestions!  Also, I agree that the inspiration pic looks good in part because the names are layered on the damask symbol - that's the first thing I noticed.  I'm not sure if you wanted to try to make it different, but I do really like how that looks.  Then you could use it under other things like table numbers etc.

I'm not sure what program you're creating these in, but there's an easy way to change the color of something in the newer versions of powerpoint.
