Lasik Eye Surgery Ladies

I am considering getting lasik done.  I have VSP vision insurance.  Do any of you have the same insurance?  I called Henry Ford because I use them for my glasses/contacts. They quoted me $3600 for both eyes.
I was looking for something a little cheaper out of pocket.  Can you recommend your doctor and inform me of how much you spent total? I do have a Flexible spending account as well.

Thank you for any information you are willing to provide.

My husband went to Dr. Beitman in West Bloomfield in 2007.  He paid $3200 total...but he also had severe astigmatisms in both eyes so his cost was significantly higher than it would be for someone with "normal" eyes.  If I remember correctly, Dr. Beitman was charging $800 per eye for those patients.  Prices may have changed in the past 3 years, but he's definitely worth checking out!

I went to Grosinger, Speigelman & Gray in Bloomfield Hills- I think mine ended up being close to $4,000, also.

Unfortunately, unless you just have very small corrections, it's going to be expensive. Just don't go to a $999 per eye place- that is for the old-school lasik where they cut the flap in your eye with basically a razor blade instead of using the laser.

I went to Dr. Beitman in West Bloomfied in 2008. I think I paid a total of $2800 and I too had pretty bad astigmatisms in both eyes. Dr. Beitman did a great job with my eyes and I am so glad I did it!

I agree with you, Colleen...to an extent.  As I stated in my previous post, in 2007, Dr. Beitman was charging $800 per eye.  That may have been a special, I'm honestly not sure.  But I can guarantee he does not perform old-school lasik.  When Brian went in 2007, he researched all of the doctors in Michigan and found Dr. Beitman was the highest rated with the most Lasik experience.  I'm sure things have changed in the last 3 years, but I definitely wouldn't avoid Dr. Beitman because he doesn't charge a lot. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

P.S. Brian went from not being able to see past a few inches in front of him to having 20/15 vision.  He can see better than me now...LOL!

I think I have astigmatism in either both eyes or one eye. I don't know what it means.  I just know that when I went to my old eye doctor and paid them a bunch of money to find out they didn't accept my insurance anymore they gave me my prescriptions so I went to a doctor that does use my insurance. It had a checkmark for astigmatism.  I am pretty blind if I am not wearing my contacts or glasses. My glasses prescription is -4.50, my contacts are -4.75.  My co-worker claims that legally blind is -5.00.  I have no idea if she is right or not.  It would be awesome to wake up in the morning without having to reach for my glasses or to go swimming without worrying if my contact will fall out.

Kayla, talk to Dr. Beitman...seriously.  Brian's prescription was -6.25 (I think...I know it was -6 something) and his results are incredible.

Thank you, Taryn! I will definitely look him up.  I know I have to be out of my contacts for 2 weeks so I will start wearing my glasses and make the appointment. Laughing

Also, it may not be feasible, but I'm sure you could get a discount by paying in full instead of paying a little each month.

Good luck!  Everyone I know who's had it done said it's the best decision they ever made.

Agreed, Taryn! Dr. Beitman has a great reputation! The $999 per eye place, not so much!!
