? for Branford House brides

I'm contamplating setting up the dance floor outside on the veranda/patio area.  I am pretty sure we'll do our first dance there (weather pending) so we don't have to cram in between tables in the main room, or get everyone into the west ballroom to watch.  And I was thinking it'd be cool to dance the night away under the stars, and then people inside can watch the dancing through the big door/windows if they don't want to be outside.  I'm thinking we'd probably have to have a dance floor installed since the patio is kind of uneven.  Has anyone tried this?  Any cost estimates?  one place showed it'd be a couple hundred, and another one was like $28, so I'm not sure what that entails.  Also, would I have to have a tent over it?  It wouldn't be my first choice, but I was thinking the floor rental company might require it to protect the floor in case of bad weather.  TIA for any input/advice!

Re: ? for Branford House brides

  • I am getting married at the branford house and looked into this and also my neighbors daughter that was married there had this.  I would suggest a tent because if it rains you are screwed, however you do HAVE to have a dancefloor and when i priced them out it was arond $400-$500 and the sideless 30x30 tents range from about $550 to $1000, depending on what rental place you use.  I think using the outside is a great idea if that's what you want to do.  I've also seen pictures where people have set up the dance floor out on the lawn with a tent and had the bar inbetween the mansion and the tent.
Here are some of the pics from my neighbor's daughter's wedding and there are maybe one or two on the dancefloor out on the patio.

  • It is $28 per square ft? Two of my best friends had there weddings there a few years ago one had their first dance outside then brought the party inside once it got dark(they did not have a tent or a dance floor and the other had a dance floor and dance out side all night. I kind of prefered the first option because with the second one everyone was separated all night and there really wasn't enough room for everyone on the patio.
  • We're keeping our dancing inside (seeing as every big moment I've ever had in my life has rained) I don't have much faith in the weather.  We are doing our food stations on the patio so we don't have to crowd one of the rooms inside.  We're tenting the patio and the portico just in case.  I'm not sure who we're using...my FMIL is doing it but I can find out who if you want the check them out.

I would def recommend having a dance floor on the patio since it's uneven and could be dangerous to your guests (esp those in heels!)
  • We're planning to have a tent outside, and as of now we're not planning to do flooring.  I'll have to go in some heels and do some dancing to check it out, but when I looked last time it wasn't a big deal!

Yeah, I'd say it's upwards of $500 - if you saw something that said $28, that's per square foot or square yard or something and they connect the pieces, but there was also an installation fee, and balancing, etc.  Basically, it added up QUICKLY!

  • I'm pretty sure Katherine has said if the dance floor is outside it's required that you have an actual dancefloor.  May want to check that.

  • Thanks guys... If it's going to be that expensive then we'll probably just do our first dance outside and then move things inside... Luckily I'll be in flats!

I think we are planning on doing this, and I think it's the best idea for us. I'm afraid of hot/muggy/rainy weather outside, and don't really want to spring the  extra money for the tent. What room are you planning on using for dancing?
