Does your FI have a crappy friend?

I am supremely pissy today because of my FI's jerk friend, M. He constantly needs attention, and calls or texts FI every single day. He has the maturity of a 13 year old, and the best way to describe him would be Stifler from American Pie. He does really stupid, immature stuff that makes us all say "No, M, serious, stop. Dude! STOP!" We took him to the county fair last year and he spent the whole ride down waving at "hot chicks" (even though he has a gf) and making faces at people. Then he nearly got us all thrown our for flirting with an untinterested fair worker. He's an idiot, but at the same time he does a lot of nice stuff for us, like give us hunting equipment he isnt using, or fix our trucks for free. I just can't stand his immaturity!

Last nite he begged FI to hang out with him. I got a text at 1am from FI saying that M, who is a tow truck driver, had to take a tow to a place 2 hours away and he was going with him! I was like WHAT! I left for work at 6:45 this am and FI was still not home. He claims that M need help..... no, he doesn't. Thats his job, he does it every day. He doesn't need help. Fi gets suckered into this stuff bc M begs him to go and brings out the stupid little boy side of FI.

I just had to rant, but does anyone else have a friend like this? I am super angry about it because I work 2 jobs, and I understand FI's company is very slow right now but that doesn't mean he gets to go joy riding with M the whole night. I try to be nice to M when I see him but he makes me SO MAD.

I don't have this problem. FI is 40 and all but one of his friends lives down south. I could see your anger about being out all night though. He is FI's friend though and they need friend time just as much as we need our girl time, they just do it differently. I do know that if two of FI's friends lived here, even though they are grown men, they would be getting into trouble all the time!

Ugh, that's not fun.My FI has a friend like that too and I really cannot understand why he is friends with him. He's a bad seed and has such a negative effect on FI. This guy is still living with a girl (whether they are together or not is beyond me) but dating someone else publically and thinks that's totally ok. He drinks and smokes like there is no tomorrow and just has no respect for anyone. I cannot stand when FI brings his cell to the supper table so he can text his friend; it's such a pet peeve of mine! We never bring our phones to the table; it's family time and he knows that but makes an exception for his friend.

Another thing might be that FI, feels obligated to spend time with this friend. I know FI has "paternal" instincts if that makes sense. He always wants to take care of people. When one particular troubled friend comes our way he does whatever he can to make this friend feel good about himself and that he is important too. I think guys are like girls deep down but just don't show it.

Thanks girls Im glad someone understands. I am trying not to get into an arguement about it. FI thinks he did something good by "helping" this guy. I understand they need guy time but why does guy time have to occur between 1-7am on dark snowy highways?

So here's a question.... would it be wrong to "expect" this crap to end once we are married? I know guys dread the thought of "being on a short leash" but at that point, he would have a damn wife and eventually a family to get his butt home to!

I wouln't expect it to end. If it's really causing problems for you two, you might want to have a serious chat but "laying down the law" probably isn't a good idea. I asked that FI respect our dinner time, but he is free to befriend whomever he chooses as long as it does not negatively effect me or us (or our family).
