6-18-11 Wedding Reviews - VERY LONG

First let me say that we had more of a home town wedding as I grew up in Las Vegas so our wedding was about 115 people. A bit larger than the typical wedding on this board. I hope you enjoy hearing about vendors that are awesome and do not get a lot attention on here!  Overall we had an amazing time!

Four seasons hotel: A++++
The reason we picked this venue was flexibility. They have no required vendors, except for lighting. So we were able to choose photographers, florist etc. They did give us a list of recommended vendors that helped us in our search, along with the knotties! Everyone at the hotel was so nice and helpful. We really enjoyed the whole experience of planning and staying there.

We were able to customize the menu. They even got us purple sprinkles (our wedding color) for the ice cream station. The food was sooo good the day of, even for 115 people being served at once. We had our own server making sure we got enough to eat. the groom even got an extra steak. We actually ate at our wedding, I was thrilled. They made us an amazing cake. We were told it could have been on cake boss. We gave our coordinator a picture that we liked and they did the rest.

Melanie Andersonwas our wedding coordinator/catering manager and she was unbelievably awesome. She was on top of everything. The beer we wanted was back ordered and she went out to the local store and bought a similar beer by the case for us even after I told her it was not a big deal. The entire hotel staff was great and they got us upgraded to the honeymoon suite for the two nights prior to the wedding. she gave me her "bat phone" in case I needed anything. She kept everything running on time and hair sprayed my head when I had a couple fly aways. I could write pages about how awesome she was.Basically, you could not ask for more!!!!

Las Vegas Events and Floral: A++
Robin did an amazing job on our flowers and general room decor. I refuse to let anyone take my bouquet out of my hands because it was so beautiful. All our guests were impressed with the ceremony and reception. We gave her pretty loose instructions and she saw our vision. The best part was she was able to work in our budget. Compared to destinations by design, the Four Seasons preferred vendor, she was less then half the price. she was very responsive to our emails and very honest when she did not think our ideas were feasible. I probably spent several hours on the phone with her by the end. There is no way I could have come up with everything the way she did. She worked directly with Melanie to design the room and figure out what was going where. It was awesome to have vendors talking to each other instead of always going through us. The pictures will explain the rest of my review (see photographers blog)!

DJ Mike Fox: A++

The best way to sum up mike fox is when the best man started saying "umm" in his speech, the jeopardy theme song started playing. The dance floor was never empty, he remembered who are bridal party's names and would call them out on the dance floor. All ages were on the dance floor and loving it. It was awesome!! He was very easy to communicate with and we met him once before booking him. He had a detailed questionnaire to fill out to be sure he got the type of dj and music he wanted. He had worked at Four Seasons tons of times before so he was able to talk to Melanie directly for where to set up etc... He was so easy to work with.

Swank lighting: A-

I'll start by saying that swank is the only one allowed to rig lights inside the four seasons hotel.  So, we didn't have a choice to use them, but it wasn't a problem.  They were great in helping fulfill our vision and make it a classy look for lighting.  They came up with an idea for a cloud look on the ceiling and heart gobos on the wall.  My husband works in TV and understants lighting and they let him make his own designs and they put them up. The only reason they didn't get a full A is that they were not always as responsive as I would have liked.  Dan was fine, but the first person assigned to our wedding was downright awful (and is no longer with the company).  I had to ask dan a few times for info, but he went out of his way to meet with me and show me his plan the day before.

Reverend Phillip York: A-/ B+
We got quite a few compliments on our ceremony. He was very sincere and a little funny. We booked him online and then met with him a couple days before. We were able to write our own vows, add a sand ceremony and a reading. He even gave us 5 minutes of free marital counseling incase any one ever asked, we could say we had it :) his price was $350 paid cash day of ( joking that he wanted small nonconsecutive bills ). Everything went smoothly, he talked to me, my dad and fi separately right before to walk through what would happen. The reason for the lower mark is I was just looking at our pictures and he was asking the MOH for my bouquet and totally messed up our first kiss picture. That is worth a ding to me!

Kim Glennie-harpist: A-

As far as I heard everyone enjoyed the music and I could tell as I was walking down the aisle that she was playing Bruno Mars -Just the way you are. She was responsive to emails. My only compliant, is that she did not have a list of what she could play or a lot of music samples.  The flip side to that is she had not played the songs I requested before, but she bought the sheet music and complemented me on how my choices sounded. It was just hard for me to figure out what songs would sound good on a harp without more direction.I wish i had more to write, but I was a little busy during the ceremony and we were picture bound for the cocktail hour.

Travis Allen: A
Travis was right on time, a big surprise to everyone and a definite crowd pleaser. He went into the photo booth to take pictures with the guests and stayed a little extra til everyone got their picture. When he first arrived the bridesmaids were safety pinning me into my dress because a hook broke, so I was a bit distracted, but the crowd noise said it all. Communication was super easy and he knew my dj so everything went smoothly.

Studio ATG photography (Trish and Jared): A++
The four seasons does NOT have a required photographer so these two were with us the whole time. One shot I really wanted was us driving a convertible out of Las Vegas. No problem!!! Trish was in the car ahead of us, and Jared was hanging out the back taking pictures of us. We made it to the Vegas sign and then back.  They were super creative and knew exactly what to do but also let us make suggestions. If you want super traditional photos they are not for you, but if you want photos you can look back on it 50 years and think man I was hot, they are definitely for you. I will say looking back at all the pictures, one of my biggest regrets was trying to jam in going to the Vegas sign into a one hour photo session. I think we could have gotten better pictures in the long-run if we stayed at the hotel.

Link to their blog with Pics, its been two weeks, so you have to look down a bit

Memory Lane Videography: B
We may have to change this in a few months, when we actually see the video. From samples and a couple other friend's videos, we think it will be good. The issue for us was they were very pushy in their communication or unresponsive. They talked us into a third camera that we did not want and when we wanted to change they became unresponsive  and told us they then could not do the bridal party interviews. That was bs since I was interviewed as a bridesmaid in another wedding that only had 2cameras.  Last irritating thing was a couple days out they wanted to go over the timeline. I tried to explain on the phone we had just picked up the grooms parents from the airport and we could email them a very detailed time line later that day, but as I am in the middle of a casino where I can barely hear they insisted on continuing to ask questions. The guys there day of were pretty nice and dressed well. I personally did not like leaving the action to share my thoughts on camera for a couple minutes, but my husband did. I felt like I was in a reality show and he works on them so that might have been the difference.

Amelia C: A ++

I think there have been enough reviews on here to know she does an awesome job. I had to run an errand that morning and had one of my bridesmaids in the suite a little early because I knew Amelia would be right on time, if not early. She earned those pluses on her review. The first is for doing my hair 3 times because I was bad at explaining exactly what I wanted. In the end we got it and it was great. She was very patient along the way. The second is because at the after party at 3am I looked around and me and the three bridesmaid with me, all with different hair styles,  still had our hair and make up still looking gooood.  She had an assistant with her helping with make up. We were completely on time, actually early.  So glad I found her on here. Thanks girls!

Premiere Photo Booth: A

We rented this a couple weeks before the wedding with a little left over budget. The price was reasonable. The booth looked very classy. Communication was very smooth, they were on time, had great props, were pro-active in getting people in the booth. I think my mom was in there the most! The photo booth attendents tried to get people in at first and then it just took on a life of its own. Everyone loved it. We already have our CD of all the photos taken.

Adorn Jewelry Rental: A
This is an Internet company that I rented some real bling earrings from. I don't wear big earrings so it did not make sense for me to buy some, but the dress needed them. For the same price as some nice costume jewelry I rented the real deal. They were mailed to me a couple days before and came with a pre-printed return box. The process was very easy and someone called me a couple days before they shipped to go over everything. They do put an insurance hold on your credit card while you have them. They are a new company and very pro calling and checking in. Personally I am really busy and don't want to talk to anyone more than I have to, but I appreciated the gesture and knowing there was someone there, which is not often found on the internet. I loved the earrings and got lots of complements. It was perfect for me.

Thursday Night Welcome Drinks

Claim jumper: A
For Thursday night we had a welcome reception in the vista suite and we got a large pick up order from claim jumper. You only needed 24 hours advance notice. They are located at town square about a mile or so from Mandalay bay away from the strip. There was very little food left, except for some onion rings which were delicious at 4:00 am. We fed about 40 people appetizers for under $400. We did not have anything to keep the food warm, but it was gone fast enough it did not matter.

Vista suite: A
We got the idea for using the suite from you guys!! We did our welcome drinks here and it was the perfect size for about 40 people. Everyone could walk around. People loved the view, the room was really modern.

Mandalay bay garden pool cabanas: A+

This is one thing I am really glad we splurged on. The garden bungalows area has it's own pool.  We had 2 bungalows for about 25 people. Maybe it's because we were ordering pitchers of booze, but the cabana girls were very attentive. Mostly it was awesome to just have all our friends in one area with practically our own pool. We had an ipod on with tunes and i spent the afternoon recovering from the bachelorette party in a round inner tube. There was plenty of shade. The drinks were expensive. $60 for a pitcher, but our new favorite drink is a Miami vice. It's half strawberry daiquiri and half piña colada. It was really nice to have a quiet relaxing place to just hang with all our friends that came in for the weekend. Also, since we had the cabana, our friends that were not staying at Mandalay or four seasons could get in for free if they said they were with our cabana. That was great.

Mandalay bay front desk: C
I have never booked a suite before and had such bad customer service. The front desk incorrectly input the notes about who could check into the new room after we left the vista suite. All the sudden an hour before our rehearsal I am getting pulled out of the shower to go down to the front desk in person to check in. When they acknowledged that they got the notes wrong they looked at us like we were crazy for being upset. Offered us nothing to make up for the fact the bride and groom would be late to the wedding rehearsal, not even an apology. Just an attitude that we were calling them on their bs. Then I had to beg for an extra hour to check out at noon the last day. Such a difference from four seasons for not that much more money!

    Wow!  So glad you posted this, I was admiring your wedding last night on Studio ATG, and thought it was so beautiful!  Fun to know you are a Knottie!  I was very taken with your glassware for your sand ceremony, most beautiful I have ever seen!!!!  Do you mind sharing where you found them?

    I loved the ceremony setup, it was stunning, and the candy bar was adorable!  One of the best weddings I've seen on here!  Congrats!

    @CPBride17 - I can't find the email on where I got it. But if you google image for it, it was on several random internet sites. I ordered it online somewhere.
    Thanks for liking the pics! Trish and Jared are amazing. You should definitely consider them.

    Thanks theangfac, we have actually been thinking about the Four Seasons, totally revisiting it after seeing your wedding.  I was able to find the heart jar, but did your other vases come with it?  Those were the ones I REALLY love.  Thanks so much MRS!

  • edited December 2011
    We could write you pages on how much we loved the Four Seasons. The other vases, we could probably sell you. PM if you are interested. We only need our heart jar with the sand in it.

    Do you mind sharing how much one cabana cost to rent for a day?  How far in advance did you book?  I've only done them at MGM Grand, but I found them to be wickedly useful on a hot, sunny day :)

    What a beautiful wedding!  I too am a Four Seasons bride and cannot say enough great things about Melanie!  Your pictures are gorgeous!  ATG was on the top of our list until we found AltF, but I'm sure we would have been more then happy with Trish and Jarred as well.  Glad to hear you got the Vista... after all the complaints I have been in total panic... still am but at least I know it's possible LOL!  We had Memory Lane film our wedding invites and are also having them for the day of the wedding and reception... I'm sorry to hear that you were a bit unhappy. :(

    Congratulations!  Can't wait till we do the same on Oct 1!

    Beautiful wedding!  I love all of it.  I had never been a fan of how sand ceremonies looked but I loved what you used for yours, it looked so elegant!

    Love the flowers too, decor, all so pretty!  You looked amazing as well!

    Congrats!!

    @nycheryl - We paid $850 per cabana I think. It came with "free water and soda". I think it was totally worth it, but that is mostly because all our friends were with us and we were all recovering/ kept drinking.

    Your wedding pictures convinced me to hire Studio ATG.  Unfortunately I already booked Joey Allen for wedding but I'm going to hire them for E shoots.

    I also wanted to comment on Memory Lane. At first Ricky was awesome in communications. When my FI asked him questions about having the wedding filmed a certain way, he was very defensive and it seemed to me that they were set on their ways.  We were just having a conference call, then he hung up and said he had a client coming in right now. He wouldn't give me the pricing via emai.  So I guess he dumped us. It wasn't meant to be I guess.
