Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

what do you think about just rose petals instead of isle runner??

My wedding is going to be in the same venue as the reception.  The floors are concrete.  I was thinking of just doing rose petals instead of the isle runner mainly because I was afraid the runner my slip on the floor without carpet underneath.  My venue said the runner would work, but also suggested I do rose petals instead of the runner.  What do you all think?   Runner or no runner?

Re: what do you think about just rose petals instead of isle runner??

  • I would say skip the aisle runner.  Personally, I've never been a fan of them on any type of flooring since I always worry about it bunching up at points and possibly having a heel get caught on it.  Concrete floors do seem pretty slippery so if you do go without the aisle runner make sure you're able to walk in whatever shoes easily on the floor so you won't fall especially if you're wearing heels!
  • I will never recommend aisle runners so I say good call on the no runner.  As far as concrete being slippery I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the same concrete?  lol...like that on the sidewalk?  I don't see how that is slippery.  In any case just make sure your shoes will be appropriate.

  • I love the idea of flowers for your aisle. Smile I think flower petals trump an aisle runner any day.

You could get fancy and do a design with the petals.

You could lay them down heavily....

Or, lay them out more sparsely.

    With candles...

Petal aisle with petals and candles floating in large hurricanes.

Sections of petals broken up by tall stands with babys breath.

There are so many different ways you can use petals to make it your own. Have fun!

  • I am excited that this was posted because I was planning to do this.  I hate the aisle runners and thought it was a waste of money.  I'm planning to do the heavy petal aisle in ivory and different shades of pink... Should be fabulous :0)
  • I love any option that doesn't involve an aisle runner.  I think the petals as a substitute sounds great.
  • Great idea! I was very excited to see this post as I had the same question, but didnt know if the idea would make or break the look of the ceremony!
  • I'd go with the rose petals instead of the aisle runner.
  • THANKS GUYS!!!!  Just roses it is!  Laughing
  • If you use double sided tape under the runner, it will not move. Also runners are so thick that your heel will not get caught. ( i got a "cheaper" runner at Michaels).
  • I feel like most weddings I've seen that involve runners (both in person and on shows like Four Weddings) there is alway some sort of technical issue with the runner.

    I'd stick with petals!
  • I agree petals beat an aisle runner any day!
