Need some inspiration help

My florist is based out of a grocery store and while I have confdence in her skills, I want to find some pictures. I'm really, really loving dahlias now. I also wanted to incorporate sweetpea (what FI calls me) and lamb's ear (I love it!). I found this inspiration pic that looks great (http://bouquet-bouquet.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/see_canyon_fruit_ranch_005.jpg) but it's too pink. I need something a little on the ivory side. I've scoured Google and can't find anything like what I'm looking for and was hoping maybe someone had something I haven't seen yet. I want it to be rustic/vintage and romantic. Also no too "put together". I don't like bouquets in perfect unison.

And does anyone know about dahlias? How long they hold up? Average cost (I know it varies by location/season)? Any help is appreciated!! TIA

Re: Need some inspiration help

  •  Dahlias are a late summer and fall bloom  that is gorgeous but not a flower that can be shipped well.
You will need to find a local grower for them ( perhaps farmers market)
Sweet peas and lambs ear are in a similar category.  Not part of the readily available supply chain.

I have some concern about the availibility of these flowers through a grscery store... if it is a chain they probably have contracts with equadorian and canadian growers for flowers that ship easliy do you had better discuss your requests early on with the designer...
While her skills may be outstanding, she may well be limited in what she can gain access to in terms of materials.  better get to that issue now rather than later.
  • I am a huge fan of dahlias, and they are comparable in price to a gerbera daisy.  They hold up really nicely if they are cared for properly.  Something to keep in mind is that grocery store doesn't always carry specialty flower like the sweet pea, so be very clear about what you want in your bouquet.  Most dahlias have a pink tint unless you choose a white that has a lime green tint near the center.  Have you looked at carmel garden roses (they smell like heaven) or balsa wood flowers?
