Non-venue style wedding locations?

So, I'm an event planner and I've seen tons of weddings done at venues. But frankly, I HATE that type of thing. For my wedding, in late August 2013, I want to have a forest-nature wedding but want to design my wedding from scratch. No pre-destined chef, chair styles, tablecloths, event coordinator. I want a blank canvas.
Any one know of an open forest/acreage/cabin that is not intended to be a wedding venue but can be rented for an evening and be used for my wedding?!

Depending on where and how many guests you are trying to accomodate, you may want to look into some of the regional parks.

I wanted the same thing, (only near water, and not forest).  I booked a venue through the east bay regional park's district.  They have quite a few rental facilities.  I had to pay an extra "non-catered option" fee since I wasn't using an approved caterer, but it worked out perfectly for me.

You can try to post this on the local northern california board too, but that board isn't overly active.

here are a couple of links for you. Of course, these are all in the bay area, since that's where I'm at. But, places like this do exist.  You just have to look around.

    <strong>East Bay rental facilities:
I booked the shoreline center. It is small inside, but I rented the adjacent picnic area. It could easily accomodate 130-150 people between the interior, the deck and the picnic area.

  • I want the same thing. I always wanted a forest nature wedding but I can't find a venue. My wedding is in September of next year. Do you have any idea of where to look for a venue like that? I tried all the parks in the area but they don't allow more than 15 people at the ceremony.
