Cheaper places to get make-up done (just a night out, not a big event).

For mother’s day, I thought it would be fun to have DH’s and my mother get make-up, hair style (maybe) and a manicure, then go out downtown.  They both like to go out and DH’s mom doesn’t get pampered much.

I wouldn’t want to pay more than $90 a person.  Does anyone know of twin cities spas that have specials (maybe something groupon ones for $30 for $15).  OR does anyone know of a store (my mother uses mostly SmashBox) that does make-up if you buy a certain amount of make-up? It would have to be someone with a slandered process…who does a nice job and isn’t just like when you try to sit down and get a free make-over from someone at a Macy’s counter.

  • For my engagement pics, I had my makeup and hair done at Juut Salon in St. Paul (I believe they had a groupon yesterday for $20 for $45 worth of services- if you could still snag that it would be a great savings!  It looks like it's still on http://www.groupon.com/minneapolis-stpaul/).

The makeup was absolutely great!  I had mine done by Kristen and she really took her time with me and made it a fun experience.  Then afterwards I got to use the $50 it cost for the makeup application towards $50 worth of makeup.  So essentially, the application was free but it felt like that was such a great deal.  My hair styled was about $45-$60 (I had it curled), but you could also do a blowout which is less and they still dry and style your hair nicely.  Or this might be what you could use the groupon for if you are able to still get it.

    Good luck!

  • Have you checked out MAC? You don't have to go to one in Macy's, you could go to the store in Uptown.
  • How about a beauty school like Regency? They have hour facials that are amazing for only $20, I think hair styles are like $10-15?

  • Any MAC counter will do a makeover as long as you purchase $50 in product.  That doesn't help with the hair though!
  • I didnt know you could use the cost for the makeup application at Juut towards  makeup. My mom goes to Juut, as do I, so I dont know if we could use the coupon unless we could use it toward the make-up (maybe not if we could do it by spending the money on make-up).

I am also thinking about the Aveda Inst. because someone else sent me a $5 off coupon and the prices are great ($63 for a scalp treatment and blow-dry, nails and make-up) but I feel like its more of treat to go to a pro.
