Excursions

My FI and I will be going to Cancun for our honeymoon.  I am looking for advice on any excursions.  Which excursions are a must and which ones should we avoid?  FI and I are open to pretty much any type of activity.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Excursions

  • I swam with the dolphins in Cozumel and LOVED it. I'm sure Cancun has the dolphin swim as well. It is in my opinion, a once in a lifetime thing.  Also, one of my favorite excursions in Cancun in the Catamaran Sail and Snorkel. It's so much fun!! They take you out to snorkel and on the way back they serve beer and rum punch, dancing/mingling on the deck of the catamaran. Depending on which tour you take, they will take you back to the port you left your take you to the beach for beach activities.

  • We did Xplor, which is near Playa Del Carmen.

    Here's my review of it:
We also did an excursion, Xplorer, which has rafting through a cave, swimming through a cave, ATV courses, and ziplining.  We had fine, but since there were only 4 activities to do, we kind of got tired of everything at the end of the day.  We set it up through our Apple rep at Secrets.  We were glad we did it, but not sure we’d recommend it.  For the two of us, with transportation, park passes and a lunch buffet, it was $258.  On top of that, the park offered to sell us 30 pictures of us from throughout the activities for $75 (which is cheap compared to some others we talked to, but we didn’t buy them)
  • My family has a few timeshares in Cancun and I've been about 16 times- I feel like I've done everything at least once. So...

    Swim with Dolphins- Dolphin Discovery
Jungle Tour- you drive two person boats through mangroves, then snorkeling
If you like histroy- Mayan Ruins at Tulum
There is a sunset lobster/steak cruise that is fun
All time favorite resturants are: Lorenzillo's & Caption's Cove- both on the lagoon side and have awesome food and sunsets. Even if you stay at an AI, I'd try at least one of them!!

  • dh and i go every december (for the past 9 pr 10 years). there are literally hundreds. for ruins my faves have been ek balam, for snorkeling i like the reefs off of sian kaan, i mean they go on and on.
when you book with your hotel ask them to email you a list of the available excursions and their descriptions. i could literally sit here for 4 hours and write them all out.......

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Excursions : My family and I love Captains Cove. I still think the best filet mignon I've ever had was from there. That stinks that you didn't like it. Our timeshares are with Royal Resorts which owns Captains Cove so we eat there a few times a week. Haha! On some nights they throw raw steaks into crocodiles' mouths off the balcony. When I was younger I thought it was awesome!! I've never heard any bad review of Lorenzillos- except the price maaayybe.

LOL so funny. we own at the islander (we have many family members that own-there, the sands and the haciendas). i think in our families we have 9 timeshares between us :) I've gone to the cove a few times and while it wasn't bad per se (just seemed kind of average with average service-nothing special)  i found puerto maderos steaks are FAR FAR better and i like the ambiance and service more as well. have you eaten there? we ate at lorenzillos a few times as well. they have some good food no doubt at all but i like the variety of sea food more at crab house. madero also has an amazing seared tuna that's spectacular. other of my faves are the distillery and cenacolo and sasi thai.

My parents own 1 week at the Mayan and 2 weeks at the Caribbean. We will usually use at least one of the caribbean weeks during the year. We'll usually go to the Sands once during the week to use the pool/beach- I've never been to the Haciendas but my parents have. I have been to Puerto Maderos before but it was a while ago so don't really remember what I got- I'm sure the food was good there too. I haven't really ever had a "bad" meal in Cancun. I'd say the most mediocure I've had was at Pericos but I guess you don't really go there for the food.
