Joint or individual Christmas gifts?

Do you and your FI/H/SO get joint gets for others for Christmas or individual gifts? FI and I got joint gifts for each family member (from both of us) but got a larger gift. Last year we did individual gifts (we also weren't engaged last xmas).

Just curious what others do?

We do individual because we draw names on his side and don't do gifts (except for the kids) on my side.

<div>In the past we got seperate gifts, but due to more financial constraints we did joint gifts this year. It's worked out so well I think we may continue to do it this way, except maybe for parents. </div>

We are doing joint gifts. It's starting to move toward just getting the children gifts which I am a fan of. It just gets to be too much.

We do individual for the names we draw for the gift that will come from Santa. This year the names FMIL drew for us all wanted local things so she went ahead and took care of it.

Depends on my ideas each year - sometimes I do individual and sometimes I do joint. This year, my sister and her husband are getting joint, but my parents are getting individual. But last year it was opposite!

I kinda hated the year Jay and I got engaged and all our Christmas presents were joint. I was like "WTF, I'm not an indiviual person anymore?" But, things have gone back to normal now.

We do joint gifts for our parents (which is usually I take care of the gifts for my parents, he takes care of the gifts for his parents, we put both our names on them) and then my small extended family does Secret Santa, so we do individual gifts for that.

Darth FI and I do joint, and have since I moved in with him.

Basically, we decide together what to get for people, but each pay for our own family members. My grandparents and I exchange larger gifts than he does with his grandmothers, so the budgets are different. We exchange small gifts with friends, so we don't really keep track of who paid for what.

We did an SS on FI's moms side for the extended family so for that we did have to do individual.

We do joint gifts and so does his brother and his wife, so it's expected in his family. I'd prefer to do separate because my ideas are better than his, but it's his family lol.

Joint gifts for our parents and individual gifts for each other. We're not buying anything for my sister and he has no siblings, but if we did buy for siblings, it would be from our joint account.

Ya, mine too. That's why I did all the shopping this year and he wrote his name on the tag. Even for his family.

It varies. This year some of our gifts are joint, others not. One of his sisters is getting one video game from both of us, the other has two presents, one from each. Basically, we set a budget of how much we each planned to spend for family members, then if we wanted to spend more, we turned it into a joint gift. It ended up a little confusing as we were keeping track of what was bought, but everyone will really love their gifts so it worked out well.

I want to do joint gifts, but the people we would be giving them to would be giving us individual gifts... does this matter??

If by joint gifts you mean buying gifts for individual people from the both of us, yes we are doing that. Each year prior we would buy for each person seperately but FI is so last minute that its easier for us to pool our money together and have me just do the shopping for each individual and then sign it from the both of us. Each person still gets plenty, its just that instead of a few from me and a few from him, each person gets a bunch from the two of us together.

Good plan, Courtchace7... we're in a similar boat with buying last minute so it does make more sense to do it that way.

Before we were engaged, we did separate gifts. Now that we are engaged and living together, we do joint gifts. We find it to be much easier.
