Need KC planning help!

Hey KC-area Knotties,

We’re doing an article for the local MO/KS Knot Magazine, and we want to hear your tips on the best places in your area. Basically, this is a chance where we get to give props to local vendors. So tell us: What’s the best place for a bachelorette party in your city, the greatest florist, cake baker, hairdresser (and why!), or even the coolest place for photos or a post-wedding brunch. You’re not limited to these things, but it’s just an idea to get you started.

Post below, and thanks in advance!

Annie

I loved all my vendors and venue, but I'd say I have to give special props to:
Gomer's Midtown-they had everything I needed for beer, wine and spirits for my reception.  I got a discount for doing a bulk order and they deliver!  You can even return anything that wasn't opened.
Classic Cakes-AMAZING cake flavors.  We ate the top layer of our cake after our honeymoon and it still tasted great!  I got sooo many compliments on the cake!

My girl friends and I love to head up to the Marquee Lounge in Power and Light on Saturday nights for free swing lessons! We’ve only been four times, but every night we always stick around longer than we planned b/c it is so much fun! Not only are the servers and bartenders great, but the food is delicious! We always order the sweet potato fries.. YUM! The instructors are fabulous and make sure all the ladies get to dance with every single guy before letting us loose on the floor. It’s a good place for people with two left feet or those that have been dancing for years. After the free thirty minute lesson, a live band keeps up the entertainment. The ratio of men to women is typically 1:4, so when we’re not dancing, we just have our girl talk. I definitely plan on bringing all the girls here for my “bachelorette” party. It will surely be a night to remember!

We’re getting married at The Elms, and I fell in love with their florist before I even knew who he was. Since we got engaged in December, when we were touring all the different venues, every place was decorated for Christmas! This was a huge plus for us since we are planning a December wedding. I took a couple of friends to see the place New Years Day when we went to sign the contract. They had the ballroom still somewhat decorated – and again – by their florist. I went to a bridal show in January and stopped at my venue’s booth just to say HOWDY and introduce them to one of my BM’s. They were so sweet – always J I really thought their booth was absolutely gorgeous and ironically was partially decorated with some of my color choices – green and silver! It was set up by Russ Lawrence with Changing Seasons in Independence. I immediately scheduled an appointment with him knowing I would be pleased with whatever he had to show me but thought maybe he would be over my budget. I went without FI for the first consultation. I had magazine cut-outs, pictures from the internet and a set amount of money I would not go over. Russ asked me what I wanted, and I showed him all of my “inspirations”, shared with him my vision of the centerpieces, bouquets, etc, and told him if he couldn’t use the flowers I wanted and keep it with my budget, then I didn’t want to hear it. Russ was so patient and listened to everything I had to say. When I was finished blurting out all my amateur ideas, he shared his professional ideas and opinions. He said he could give me exactly what I wanted for a fraction of what I thought it was going to be originally and still be UNDER my budget! Russ drew a picture of every single floral arrangement that would be used for my wedding – upside-down! He is truly an artist. He even shared some ideas of how to move different things around at my venue that would make it truly my own unique ceremony. Remember how I said he had the booth at the bridal show decorated with green and silver?? I told him how much I loved the green table cloths with the sheer, black overlay. He’s tossing those in half-price and yet STILL under my floral budget. I could not be more pleased with Russ. I am so excited to see how he is going to make my dream come alive J

We just got married in May, and I have to say that all of our vendors were great...but the one that sticks out the most is our cake decorator!  We used BellaRoca cakes (www.bellarocacakes.com ).  Originally we booked our cake with a different baker but  less than 2 weeks before our wedding she called us and cancelled, with no real reason.... so in a mad panic we searched for someone who could make our cake for us.  After several calls to other bakers who didnt have the time, a friend of a friend of mine recommended BellaRoca cakes...they not only squeezed our cake into their (booked) schedule, but were sooo helpful and always responded quickly to our emails.  I have to admit I was a little worried it might not look or taste good, even tho the work on their website looked great, but since it was so last minute, we didnt get to do a tasting or anything.... so needless to say i was still frazzled!  But arent we all this close to our wedding! :P
Well, the cake got delivered, on time, and looking beautiful!  It was exactly what i said i wanted and it tasted soooo good!  My husband says it was a blessing in disguise because he said it tasted better than our original baker's did (who will remain nameless)!  All our guests commented that it was so good and so moist.  I cant thank Desiree & Joel (the owners) enough!  You guys truely do amazing work!  So if you need a good looking and tasting wedding cake...definitely go to them!
ps-i cant say for first hand because i did not use them for a grooms cake (we didnt have a grooms cake) but i do know a friend who did and other friends who have had custom birthday cakes made with them, and their 3D type cakes (if thats what they are called) are truely a work of art!
    Hopefully this helps.... :)
Oh, and good luck to all you brides to be... and remember, if (and when) something goes wrong in planning, stay calm, it will all work out!  Cool

    This is our cake! (below)

Sharon Ivy at Sharon Ivy Events is our Day of Coordinator. Not only does she easily fit our budget, she has gone above and beyond the day-of-coordinator duties. She accompanied us to meet with several venues as well as answered my slew of questions over the past year. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for event planning.

I would also highly recommend Kristin's Cakes- she did my brother's wedding cake in May and is also doing mine.  Her flavors were amazing and the cake was adorable.

Pole Worx in the West Bottoms was a total blast for our group.  It's something we have talked about doing for YEARS but never had the courage to actually try.  My friends rented the space for 2 hours, which included a one hour class and one hour for drinks/cake/presents.  We opted for a 30 minute pole and 30 minute chair dance lesson.  It was hysterical.  Everyone participated, including the moms!  We laughed and laughed and laughed.  I seriously wish we wouldn't have waited so long to check it out.  Too much fun...and some great Kodak moments!

KA - PM me if you want any photos.

As far as  Churches go, I have to give props to St Mark's UMC in Overland Park. There's a big sanctuary, lovely chapel and gorgeous garden area. Amazing to work with!
