2nd wedding same groom Where do I start

My parents separated 15 years ago, and 3 years ago the finally divorced. Almost exactly a year later they decided they couldn't live without each other. And now my mom is asking me for help in planning her wedding with my dad. They want something simple, backyard style. I am clueless. Any ideas at all please feel free to throw them my way.
 Also, what would you consider appropriate etiquette for this type of 2nd wedding.

    Not sure what "proper etiquette" would be, but with a backyard wedding you could do all sorts of things:  cater food in, do it picnic style, get a tent/cover in case of rain, have IPod music, get your own alcohol and pop and set up a bar, rent chairs for the ceremony.  Lots of DIY.  There's also a community on TK called Outdoor WEddings.  Check them out as well.

    I think the first thing is to figure out the budget, then go from there.  That will help you decide the number of guests, if you can have it catered, if you want something a bit more formal, although still outdoors (seated, plated dinners, for example).  I've seen some lovely outdoor weddings. 

    Also, check out this month's Martha Stewart Living--there are some lovely pictures of a gardening cooperative having a dinner that I LOVE.  Jars hanging over the picnic tables alternating with candles and flowers.  So pretty!

    Figure out the budget and what style of wedding your parents would like, then start working form there.  As previous posters had said you can do just about anything in a back yard.

    Well, first you want to determine what kind of things they're wanting. Are they wanting a laid back wedding with just a few close friends and family, maybe cooking some hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill? Or just some hors d'oeuvres out for people to eat? I've been to a backyard wedding reception and it was honestly one of the most elegant weddings i've ever seen. There wasn't any dancing, none of the "traditions" like a formal cake cutting, or garter/bouquet toss. They just had some classical music playing in the background, while everyone just mingled and ate hors d'oeuvres. It was simple but absolutely lovely. They kept the food in the kitchen so everyone kinda went through there (this took place a little inland of San Diego during late May, so it was starting to get hot out, they didn't want the food to go bad) but you don't have to do it that way. Just make sure the food isn't in direct sunlight, put a table umbrella over it or somewhere where there's shade. Good luck, I hope this helps you!
