I started a new DIY project!

So here is some background. I made pink and purple pomander balls out of silk daisies. After, I changed my colors to various shades of purple and gray. So, then I decided that I could floral spray the pink pomanders purple. They looked nice, but they still weren't what I was wanting.

So, I stumbled across fabric pomanders, and am doing that instead of spraying the pink ones purple. Yes, I lost some money, but in the end I will be much happier, and these fabric ones are SOOO cute!!

I am making them with lavender fabric. I only have half of one done right now, and it is time consuming, but I am in love with them.. here is a picture from the internet of what they will look like:

Well I found them yesterday, but now I can't find them! All you do is get a strofoam ball. Cut the fabric into circlles, about 3-4 inches in diameter. Put a dot of hot glue in the center, fold in half. put a dot of hot glue in the center of that on the crease and fold one side to the middle, do the same with the other side. Use the glue gun to puncture the strofoam ball a little, put a little hot glue in the puncture and put the point of the fabric piece in the puncture, and it stays standing up! I have six inch foam balls, which are really big, and a yard covers half of one ball.

  • Leah, I am using them on shepherd's hooks for the aisle, and also as centerpieces on eiffel tower vases. I am also thinking about making smaller ones for the arch.. but not as many..

  • I wanna make some!!! I just don't know where I'd put them..... Our centerpieces are pretty much set and our florist is making a silk 'swag' for the arch which I *really* want.

I'll have to get creative! lol

  • Please post pics when you're done! I'm doing DIY ribbon pomanders (also in purple) for ceremony decorations, and I'd love to see those!

  • I will post pictures when I am done with one. It will probably be mid-week next week, since I didn't bring any home this weekend.

  • I'm doing something similar except they are squares of fabric, you stack 3 together fold them in 1/4s and then use a long straight pin to anchor them to the syrofoam ball.  So far they are turing out really cute.
  • Hah!  Those look familiar from my bio. ;) I haven't started working on mine yet...I'd love to see pics of how yours turn out!

  • Ah, I didn't even look at your bio Tully! I will definitely post pics! They are way more cost effective than using silk flowers.. I wish I would have thought of this earlier!
