Idea for ladies worried about losing the e-ring while on honeymoon

We just got back from a vacation to Jamaica. We met several couples who were honeymooning. One of them told us that her ring was not "the ring". It was a CZ imposter ring that they picked up for less than $20. It looked great and I admit, I thought it was a great idea. Instead of worrying about taking it on and off while doing water sports and such, you can leave it on and not worry. While all the time your true e-ring is locked up, safe and sound, waiting for your return.
I know some ladies may not want to part with their e-ring for even a moment, but I wanted to share this idea for those who might be worried.
Have a great night

Pittsburgh September Siggy - Our honeymoon will be at the Royal Suites Turquesas in P*nta Cana. Super excited!

• I did not bring my wedding band or e-ring on our HM to Hawaii. When we bought DHs titanium wedding band, we also got a match for me. Both rings were about $100. DH did not want an expensive ring and this was the perfect solution for our trip. It was one less thing to worry about when we were in Hawaii!

I highly recommend not bringing your rings, especially if you are going to be active and exploring! They will be safe and waiting for you when you get home!

• I brought mine and just took them off whenever I was planning on being in the ocean and left them in our condo's safe. I don't know how I feel about the fake ring. I think I'd prefer to wear none at all than one that isn't my actual ring.

I did something similar. My husband thought it would be cute if I got a smaller version of his ring. I wore my normal e-ring for most things, but when we went fishing and swimming I wore the tungsten ring. I understand that some people want to wear their diamond e-rings all the time, but I'm paranoid since my FMIL lost his wedding ring on the beach.

• I honestly think it is a good idea. It is NOT something I would want lost or damaged. I NEVER personally wear my ring a work for this reason of not wanting anything to happen to it

I have to admit I don't understand buying a fake ring. I either wear my engagement ring or nothing. We do have inexpensive plain gold wedding bands for trips when we plan lots of activities where we don't want to wear our nice rings. My husband had his ring come flying off during a soccer game once (after much combing the field it was found) and since then we have our plain bands. Next moth we are sailing the BVI so we will have the bands...a sailboat is not someplace I would want my wedding set! But what would the point to a fake ring be?

• Leaving it at home...Do not want to worry about losing it.
• Mine is going in the safety deposit box. I bought a "bar ring" last year and I'll probably wear that when we go on our honeymoon. We have insurance - but I would be devastated if I ever lost my ring. When I'm on the beach I want to be relaxing and not checking to make sure I have my ring every two seconds.
• We put ours in the hotel safe and kept the keys with us when we went out on the various excursions. Other than that, we wore them. I bought a fake band for the excursions, but H didn't wear anything at all. I wasn't worried so much about losing them, but the effects of the saltwater on the diamonds and gold.
• I don't get it, I see this conversation all the time and I just don't understand.

I think you can lose your ring or have it stolen at any time, not just on your HM or any other vacation. That's why you have insurance. Someone could steal your ring in your hometown, the town you are visiting is someone else's hometown and the stone could fall out anywhere.

Sure someone could come back and say OMG my stone fell out in ____ on my HM! DON"T take your ring!
On the other hand I went to a GTG 2 months ago and one of the girls was late because 3 guys tried to mug her outside of her apt building. They drove up on motorbikes and tried to take her rings. 10 feet from her building with a doorman.

This. Unless you are going to somewhere that is genuinely dangerous where the sight of any kind of precious stone or precious metal would cause someone to try to attack you (newsflash: a resort area in Mexico does not qualify, neither do about 99% of places people go on their HM) or engaging in extreme sports where damage to your rings or your hands is likely, the idea of leaving something at home because "it might get stolen" is silly to me. I think it's more likely your unattended house will get broken into than that your rings will fall off on the beach (if they fit you properly) or that someone will mug you at gunpoint for them in the middle of your cruise ship.

This. This is why I bought insurance, so I don't have to worry about selectively wearing my ring.

Agreed!!!!!!!
I think not bringing your rings on your honeymoon is silly! (And I am sorry, but replacing with a fake ring is even sillier.... If you truly don't want to wear your ring, why not just wear nothing at all? I mean, if your husband can't accompany you somewhere ~ do you hire a stand in?)
The chance of something happening to your rings are sooo much greater when you are home just living your everyday life. Do people think homes don't get broken into while they are vacationing...? You could get robbed anywhere, or your ring could fall off anywhere, especially the places you spend the MOST time (ie: home / work / school).
We both wore our rings on our honeymoon, and had noooo problems. The rings fit properly, so I didn't really worry about them slipping off.... plus they are insured. Sure, no insurance policy could replace the sentimental value... but we would much rather enjoy them with sentiment, than leave them in a safe (that could be broken into anyway.... Don't people realize that all hotel safes have a MASTER combination that unlocks every safe...? Hotel employees could SO very easily get into those safes!)
Life is too short to have something you love, but not use it out of worry!
Sorry if this came off as snarky... its just one of those topics that come up around here a lot, like honeymoon registries or Bpics, that I find so ridiculous! But of course to each their own...

Being married is a real thriller! =)

• I'm sorry but this is why you're supposed to get all the rings insured. My H and I took our rings with us and didn't hesitate to wear them wherever we were going because they were fully insured in case anything happened.

• My husband and I purchased cheap rings for our HM and I couldn't be happier with that decision. Our rings are fully insured and all that, but we didn't want to take a chance and end up with replacement rings that weren't the ones we chose for each other, and weren't the ones blessed by our priest on our wedding day.
We knew we'd be on the beach, in the water, and doing activities most of the time - so why risk the real rings? Sure, you can lose them at home in the sink or whatever, but we felt the chances were much greater on our HM.
Also, it's sort of uncomfortable to be on your honeymoon after getting married the day before and having NOTHING on your finger. Especially on the HM when people are asking if we were honeymooners, and our fingers were bare?

I'm more than happy we spent the little bit of $ on our fake rings and had zero worries, but to each their own.
• I can understand that some people think it's silly to use a "fake" ring while going on your HM. And I completely agree, that you can lose it or have it stolen at any time/place, etc.

However, I am seriously considering purchasing a ring to use on my honeymoon. My reason, I don't want to be on my honeymoon worrying all the time. My engagement ring is my grandmother's wedding ring. It is priceless (to me), an heirloom and I would DIE if anything happened to it...especially if it was because of my own stupidity/carelessness.

Some may opt to take their real rings & leave them in a safe....some may choose to no wear any at all....or some people just like the idea of buying a fun fake ring to utilize. I say potato/potat-o....people are going to do what's right for them.
