Too small for a 2nd line brass band?

Hey Ladies...

I gotta admit...I love this board. Everyone here seems to be really nice,friendly and knowledgable! I've learned a lot since starting this journey from everyone.

When I first started plannning my NOLA nuputials I knew the basics of what I wanted my guests and myself to experience when in the city. But I  never knew anything about the brass bands!!!!

In all the bio pics I've seen of other brides...the 2nd line pics show everyone having a great time. So...now I'm thinking...I may want to do that too!! :)

So my question is:
 is it reasonable to have a brass band play for a small party of 30 guests? I'm having the wedding in the city park...and Ralphs on the Park is an option for the reception. so we could be doing the 2nd line over there.

Also I've read that permits are required if you're having the 2nd line on the street...but what about in the park?

Any info and recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!! :)

    I personally don't think 30 people is too small. If you have to actually leave the park to get to Ralph's, I would imagine you'd need a permit, unless you just have them stop at the park's exit, which might be fine to do. Seriously, our second line was our first ever and it was hands down my favorite part of the day.

    Honestly, we went into planning figuring we would skip it. Somehow or another we decided to go for it and I am 200 percent glad we did.

    I agree. You can have a second line with any guest list, i think. Also, you don't have to even leave the bldg. At many parties growing up, the second line was reserved until the very end of the night when it's time to go home and the second line band (or dj) would play the second line music and everyone would pick up the nearest napkin and second line in the place. It's a blast. So, it doesn't have to involve going down the street.

    I think 2nd lines are always fun, I've done them both in the street and in the room at the end of the night.

    Are you going to do it on the street in the Park?  The streets that run through City Park are New Orleans city streets, NOPD can pull you over, so I think you might need the permit if you're going to be on the street.  If you're just in one of their grassy areas, I doubt the permit is necessary, but I would call and find out.  If you need the permit, you could be hit with a fine or worse, not allowed to have it, and you'd still have to pay for your brass band.

    I'm not sure if you saw my other post to your restaurant question, but City Park is a state park, and so the state has them charge for things that might normally be "free" in a park, like wedding pictures taken by a professional photographer.  I'm not sure about ceremony sites, etc., but I would check into this.  CP has a large staff, and since you're getting married during a weekday during the day, you could run into some issues.

    Well...after you ladies *twisted my arm* and all...we're so doing it! Looks like we're going with Dr. Jazz and the New Orleans Sounds. I'll be able to post more after this weekend! FH is heading over to NOLA to check everything!! I'm getting sooo excited girls!! :)
