STD Postcards

We are thinking of postcards for STD.  I like the simplicity of it as well as he fun of getting one in tne mail!  However, I am concerned about the postcards being destroyed or stamped in the wrong area which will not look great.  Has anyone received or used postcard STD in the mail and if so, were you happy, disappointed?  Let me know your thoughts.  I may need to look into envelopes to avoid postcards being damaged.

Re: STD Postcards

  • I recently received a very cute STD post card for a DW in the Bahamas. I thought it as adorable but, yes, the stamps was clear across their faces. I guess that is part of the kitschy charm of a postcard?
  • I did STD postcards and they came out great! The stamps weren't an issue because it was on the back where the addresses were. Weddingpaperdivas.com has great designs and they were so helpful in making changes that weren't offered.

  • My sister just got a STD that was stamped and the edges were pretty tattered.  You could still see everything, but they def go through something in the mail.  We put ours in envelopes because I was afraid of that.
  • Some people are also paranoid about personal information going public- for instance, if you list your website on the STD, are you okay with the mail carriers seeing the address? Its something to think about.

If I were doing postcards, I would find a postcard the same size and mail it to myself. That way you can see where stamps and barcodes go, then avoid those areas on your STDs.
  • I'd probably spend just a little extra money and put them in envelopes.

  • I've never seen them put a stamp on the front of a postcard...isn't there a spot on the back (w/ the address) specifically for the stamp? Or do you mean those other ink stamps they put on them?...still, wouldn't they just stamp the back?

Ours were about postcard size, but we sent them in envelopes to avoid them getting beaten up etc. (plus the personal info thing is a good point... we had our website listed on ours). It's personal preference, and I totally understand it's cool to get an actual postcard in the mail, but envelopes are pretty cheap and will keep them looking nice :)

  • I got the postcards from  vistaprint when they were having their "free" sale. and then I went to Michaels and bought some magnets to stick to the back, and put them in envelopes to mail. It ended up being really cheap and easy!!

  • I am going with the envelopes.  Thanks all for your thoughts.
  • I did postcards but used envelopes just to be safe! (the background was white) I didn't want them to be dirty before our guests got them.
