Late night snack?

So I've only been to a couple of weddings so I'm not sure how legit this would be. I'm in love with the mini foods some people do as late night snacks. I think it's cute, quirky, and who doesn't love more food? I'm debating on asking the caterer about something like this. Here's my hangups:

Cost. We're already squeezing the budget as it is. We could probably find a way to do it if it was something we really wanted.

Also time. The DJ is schedule to go to 10:30, but we could add another half hour or so if people are really dancing. Everyone has to be off the property by midnight. The ceremony starts at 5:30 and the cocktail hour at 6. Dinner at 6:30 more than likely (this is all rough estimate). Sooo... not late enough for a "late night snack"? We're already having a smores table by the fire pit so it would be something more like small sandwiches or something.

What do you think?

Re: Late night snack?

  • So it should wrap up by 11? Hmmm... do they have anything to munch on?
I would have something; it doesn't have to be much. Sandwiches and smores are fine.
We are have "pizzalettes"; little mini pizza bites but funky flavours and such. Supper is late (like 7:20ish) but we are going until 1 AM and we have a lot of guests coming for the late reception. We have to feed them too :P

  • If dinner is at 6:30, figure people will be done and ready to dance around 7:30ish.  I think 10:30/11 is a little too soon for a snack.  It would be a super nice gesture if you chose to do it.  But, if the budget is also a concern, why stress yourself by doing something that is nice, but not expected/necessary.  If you can get under budget it doesn't mean to hurry up and rush to spend that extra money.  If it is going to stress the wallet, I don't think it is the extra hassle.  Save the money for your new life together (or the HM)!

I do think the money is better spent on an extra half hour with the DJ if people are still going.  Another option would be to extend the DJ and maybe do little bags of a late night snack for people to eat whenever as they walk out.  You could do cookies or something like that.  It would probably be cheaper if it didn't need to be hot and could double as a favor.
  • I agree with PP, ssounds like you might have more important priorities (more DJ time), and honestly, IMHO, your guests aren't going to miss it. A lot of them will probably be too intoxicated to give it a second thought (are you having an open bar?). Especially since you're really already having a 'snack' in the form of the s'mores. You're already feeding them dinner too, that's more than enough. Skip it.
  • Your reception doesn't go that late and you are already having smores - skip it!

    Ditto this.

  • I think the s'mores are more than enough, considering you probably won't go past 11. I'd be thrilled to go to a wedding that offers s'mores!
  • I would pass because the budget is tight and you are already doing s'mores (yum!).

  • Okay, you guys have me feeling better! I just don't want anyone going hungry or bored, but yeah, it would be much better for our wallets. Soo... no late night snack it is! =)
