Wedding Woes

Book rec (if you like Arthurian legends, or maybe even if you don't)

I've been reading Jack Whyte's Camulod series, and it's rocking my world.  I usually hate historical fiction and hate boys' tales even more, but this one is really good.  It starts with the beginning of the fall of Rome, with Arthur's grandfather as the protagonist, and it's really engaging.  And even more so, despite being a dude story, women aren't either irrelevant or male fantasies - they're written as very real characters in their own right, who you get a sense have their own stories to tell, and all somehow without losing focus on who the main characters really are.  Pick them up if you get a chance; you won't be sorry.

I saw a little bit of that, but never finished.  Is it worth my time, attractiveness of the actors aside?

Kuus, you would probably like the Courtway Jones' series of Arthurian stories.  It's the story of people around Arthur more than Arthur himself and has a lot of interesting  Celtic, pagan religion and Peltish history.  In the Shadow of the Oak King (Arthur's adopted brother) is the first one, followed by Witch of the North (Morgan Le Fay's tale, done far better than Marion Zimmer Bradley could ever dream of).  The third is Prince in Camelot and really it's not all that great, but it is the necessary ending to the saga.

Intriguing.  I used to love Arthurian legends as a kid, and then got tired of them.  Maybe I'm rekindling an old love here.

I've read a lot of them and really Courtway Jones is my favorite.  My poor old books are tattered and dog eared.  I think I have an affinity, b/c the author has a forward about reading the original legend as a young kid and just not being satisfied that such seemingly noble people did things that the author just knew wasn't right.

So, the author (I don't know if it's a man or woman) basically majored in medieval history and then re-wrote them.  It's not all rainbows and puppies, they're still people, but there's a story behind each action that makes the following action at least human, rather than just gross decisions (i.e. Arthur doesn't KNOW Morgan is his sister when they sleep together and neither does she).  Plus, I really enjoyed the religious and humanistic explanation the author worked in for the Lady in the Lake.

I think too much about these things sometimes.  :)

I think taking a class on the traditions ruined these for me.
Maybe it was the 4000th time the wee dwarf got stolen from the knight and given to another night that I lost it.
I crated a flow-chart for dwarf-thievery at one point...I wish I knew where that was.
