October 2012 Weddings

Does it make me a bad person...

...if I hate pintuck? I just can absolutely not stand it. No offense to those that do like it, I just...ugh. Kind of like I hate all taffeta BM dresses? I guess combing through all these wedding sites and classifieds and magazines is really bringing out my inner nitpicker. LOL so what kind of random minor wedding-related things can't you stand? Square cakes? The double heart design? Bling?

  • What is pintuck?

  • While registering, I learned that I hate square plates/dishes. Didn't know that until FI suggested a set and I was like, "Ugh!"

I hate every SINGLE Pronovias ad currently in print. Something about the smiling model and her yuppy bridesmaids/children/husband, plus the flowers and the sunny scenery just... yuck.

  • I don't like veils, at all.

  • http://www.tablecloth.com/pintuck.htm That's pintuck. A type of stitching in material that gives it a diamond or square look.
  • Yeah, what is pintuck?

I HATE the typical, cheesy wedding music...like line dances and crap like the YMCA.  Yeah, I will be making it very clear to our DJ that he is absolutely not to play any of those songs.

Also, after following some wedding blogs, I've realized I really don't like the whole vintage look and I'm getting quite annoyed that a lot of the stuff they feature on blogs is a lot of the vintagey, shabby looks that I'm not a fan of.  It's hard for me to find decor inspiration because all the stuff I see online are things I don't like!  ugh.

Oh yeah, good call. There will be no Electric Slide or YMCA or any of that crap at my wedding!

  • I am absolutely with you on taffeta. When I was dress shopping, my mom would suggest things for me to try on and I'd just recoil from anything that had taffeta on it. Other people can wear it and it doesn't bother me (the dress mom picked out actually turned out to be taffeta, LOL), but I don't ever want to.

  • I also don't like pintuck - I'd be afraid that all the glasses were going to fall over.

I cannot stand pickups. I think they look horrible.

I dislike most veils and find them distracting.

I've started my do NOT play list and it includes YMCA, conga line, that crappy dance cha cha song (step to the left.. step to the right). Not going to happen at my wedding.

    ahahah... I'm a horrible bride.

I'm with you there. Vintage, boho, I just don't care for it. Not my style.

Tiaras. Ironically, I wanted one at first...until I tried one on with a veil. At which point I felt like a pretentious beyotch who thought her crap didn't stink.

Ugh yes, tiaras! They're just awful and I think they look childish.

Along with that, I hate the whole "princess" mentality. I can't stand brides in SYTD who say "I just want to look like a princess!" why don't you try to look like a grown woman on your wedding day, instead of trying to look like a fairy tale character.

    Completely agree with you!

  • I hate chair covers. I don't care how 'ugly' the chair is, I much prefer looking at a regular chair than one with a sheet draped over it and a bow on the back. I also do not like probably 80% of reception decor styles/pictures I see, everthing is too over the top and floofy for me.
  • You ladies are good!! Pick ups in dress and big tiaras also in my dislike list.

Also, prom-y bridesmaid dresses. I'm struggling to find one that's not overly expensive and isn't prom-y.

Last but not least, i can't stand super artsy wedding pics when you can't actually see the bride and groom. Not to offend anyone if that's your style, it's just not mine.

  • I hate the double heart design!!!!!!!!!!! And the pick ups and taffeta...and I also have issues with tiffany blue...I think it will look horrible in 10 years (sorry if that's any ones colors). And the grown women looking like fairy tale charters, and over done themes. Its a wedding not a birthday party...some people take it way to far
    for siggy
  • After clicking on the link, I dont like pin tuck either. Also, while I don't mind veils, I cannot stand seeing pics of the bride and groom under it. I think it looks so cheesy.

It's like... we're the same person!  LOL  JK

It's only cute when my future step daughter wants to be a princess... well "flower prinicess girl" is what she calls herself.  And of course she can't be a princess without a tiara.  But then again she's 5...

I ditto pick up skirts or any crazy skirt style, feathers, rolled fabric to look like flowers... in brides or BMs.

I also don't really like tall center pieces.  I like seeing the people at my table.

(I feel the need to add, sorry to offend anyone, or just not my style after all of these)

  • This whole post makes me laugh. Just shows how different people are . . .which is great!

I for one looooove vintage weddings, artsy weddings, DIY weddings, rustic weddings (which I'm having) . . . because that's totally who I am.

I DO NOT like tiaras! I will never wear one . . . ever. Unless it's as a joke for my bachelorette party or something. I'm not a fan of overly blingy weddings. It's too much for me. I don't love mirrors on tables under centerpieces. I'm not a fan of fake flowers.

I don't think it makes anyone a bad person to like what they like or not like something everyone else likes. That's what makes us who we are. I'm not offended that some of you hate vintage weddings. Our weddings are ours . . . and they should reflect who WE are!!!

  • I totally second, third and fourth what you girls had to say about the tiaras! You are a bride, not a princess!! My best friend and MOH is getting married in June and her mother is absolutely dead set on her wearing a tiara. Gah, I want to barf. She thinks her daughter is some froofy princess and I think she's going to give in because she refuses to stand up to her mother.I don't have a problem with decorative headpieces, and i love some of the beaded headbands... but a tiny little crown? No, just no.

I also am not a fan of the pintucked tablecloths, they are just odd to me.

This!!  I too love vintage/rustic/DIY type weddings, I am also having one!  I would never be offended by someone saying that they don't care for my type of wedding.  I don't really like a TON of bling at weddings, that being said, it can be beautiful, just not me :)

The only things that I can think of that I absolutely DO NOT LIKE are tiaras (feels too much like dress up to me) & I really don't like anything with hearts on it, it just feels cheesy to me.
