It really cheeses me off when retailers use the whole "boys' toys" vs. "girls' toys" categorization. I never liked it, but now I really, really dislike it.
S/O Cars, from PMeg's advent/countdown calendar post, the Woozle loves Cars. She plays with them in a more stereotypically girl way, more like characters in her imaginary stories than racing around crashing into things. But still, she loves Cars. She actually woke up this morning clutching her little die cast Lightning McQueen, mumbling "Chick and the King," and when she became more awake she sat up and, disoriented, asked "Where are the Chick Hicks and the King I was playing with downstairs?" Which she hadn't been and doesn't even own, she was literally dreaming of Cars. So I went to see if I could specifically find a Chick and a King somewhere, since Cars 2 stuff is disappearing and stuff from the first Cars is even scarcer.
Toys R Us has some original Cars, and of course you have to click on Boys' Toys to find them and it made me all kinds of irritated. Such a narrow definition. As I said, it's not a new or original complaint, but I feel like people are so pigeonholed and categorized as it is, do we really have to start before kindergarten?
