Cocktail Reception Invitation Wording

We're having a cocktail-style hors d'oeuvre reception. There will be plenty of food to be a full meal, but it will be served cocktail-style at stations. Our caterer is referring to it as "heavy hors d'oeuvres". We want to specify this on the invite for those guests who may be picky about the fact that it's not a sit-down meal so they know ahead of time.
Any other wording ideas? I don't like the use of the word "heavy" on the invitations!
Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Cocktail Reception Invitation Wording

  • If it's enough to make a meal, you can just go with "reception to follow." You don't have to specify what type. And since I'm assuming there will be stations, there will actually be more variety than a regular sit-down meal.

I would avoid hors doeurve or appetizers because if nothing follows, it's not a really a precursor.

If it really will equal a meal, no need to write down what kind of food
